New Additions = Improved Depth

Definitely much improvement, but there are still some glaring weaknesses. Gonna take some time as is to be expected. That said, the scoreboard should look better for Us than last year. We've gotta stay healthy and still have concerns at QB2. Potential is there, but. . . . . . .

Manny was bringing pressure just to bring pressure, with no safety net. He couldn't disguise his pressure either. His defenses got burned time and time again once the opposing team figured out his sequences.

Guidry does a great job disguising his pressure and if the pressure doesn't hit home, his defense isn't assed out. there's backup coverage.

I didn't see a tackling issue at Marshall so if he can get some of these players to break bad habits, we should see an approved tackling team.

Also want to add, that Marshall's DL and LBs were very good at using their hands to keep blockers from getting a hold of them, and fighting through the initial contact to get to the ball carrier. Which is something Manny's defense could never really do.

Honestly I’m done being fooled. My expectations this season are extremely low.

Besides the OL I’m not sure we’re a much better team and I don’t think our coaching hires were that great.

This is the time of year to fall in love with the hype and see a path to 15-0 but I think the ceiling of this team is 8 wins. I can see 6-6 but I don’t see any path to 9 wins. (Regular season)

In all seriousness, let's walk through thematically the difference:

Diaz = pressure in back field
Guidry = pressure in back field

Diaz = LBs support DL/cover mid (often on island)
Guidry = LBs support DL/cover mid (often on island)

Diaz = DBs cover as called and are often forced into 1 on 1 if runner breaks free into 2d level
Guidry = DBs cover as called and are often forced into 1 on 1 if runner breaks free into 2d level

The season hinges on health & development.

Get/keep Ty Harrell healthy & get Kirk developed & integrated into the Offense.

Same with CJ Jr, he's a weapon that allows for flexibility & versatility offensively. You have to get him on the field & playing, don't waste that speed.

Defensively it's the same, development & integration.

CB will come down to finding someone between Richard, Damarri Brown, Roger Stafford, DP Jr & D Freeney to play at Boundary & figuring out the Nickel.

The biggest issue the CB group & Secondary overall will have is Speed, the current staff still hasn't figured out the secret science of finding fast DB's, the same thing that plagued the previous staffs; but otherwise they have to get the new talent with upside on the field.

Chaney (if healthy), Fletcher, Allen and CJ Jr all have unique traits that give them a higher ceiling of a RB than Parrish imo. Do you think we could see Parrish role diminish some this year?

When factoring in HS recruiting and portal additions, Miami brought in the #13 class in 2022 and the #8 class in 2023.

Somewhat skewed because some of the 2022 transfers are no longer on the team (Darrell Jackson, Caleb Johnson, Mitchell Agude), but when you look at it like that, here are the teams who have pulled in equal or better classes in each of the last 2 cycles:

Alabama
UGA
Ohio State
Texas
USC
LSU
Oklahoma

That's it. 7 programs in the country have signed better than the 13th and 8th best overall classes the past 2 cycles.

Is this the finished product of what Mario envisions as far as talent acquisition? No.

Should this be a much better roster than what it was when Manny departed? Absolutely.

Go win some football games. Would be really nice if half the ******* team wasn't hurt again before October, too.

You’re right, they are not the same and saying they are is an overly simplistic observation. If people are going to say that, then they’ll have to say that any defense with which brings pressure is a “Miami Manny Diaz Defense“.

I kind of believe that this is the way to build rosters moving forward. Not that I think we'll land top 10 transfer classes every year, but if we're constantly landing top 10, top 7 classes, and using the portal to land immediate starters and floor raisers, that's a recipe of sustainable success imo.

Good analysis. Also, Texas, USC, and Oklahoma! "out recruiting" Miami has led to what?

Texas sucked donkey balls, USC was meh, and Norman has a very bad case of Brent Veneralables Disease.

Big Manny is building towards something better than what Manuela put on the field.

Not really.

Aside from Ajay Allen, I don’t see any of the other RB’s necessarily taking on a larger role.

Parrish is the most consistent, so I would guess the Coaches will give him the most carries.

I’ll believe it when I see it with Chaney; I hope against hope CJ Jr gets used in a multifaceted way, but who knows how that goes, TF’s for whatever reason at Miami regardless of their talent seem to always have an issue getting on the field. I don’t see it with Fletcher, but he’s the quintessential Mario-Back.
