Instead of using a traditional four-man defensive front — two pass-rushing ends and two bigger tackles — the Giants line up four end-type players when they’re trying to harass a quarterback. And when Fewell wants the Giants’ defense to crank up the heat, he makes Jason Pierre-Paul (who ranked fourth in the league with 16½ sacks this season), Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck and Mathias Kiwanuka his four-pack pass rush. It’s a combination of Fewell’s willingness to try something new and having the defensive players versatile enough to do it.
