NAME YOUR DC FOR NEXT YEAR

**** poor LB play is the gateway to the suck of this defense. They aren’t good at blitzing, aren’t good in coverage, take bad angles in the run game, they’re slow, and the consistently get themselves out of position. Hard to mask deficiencies when there are no efficiencies that they can use to cover it up. Bad recruiting and identification of talent. Trending towards this athletic and Swiss army defense everywhere except LB where we continue to recruit downhill plodders that aren’t versatile.

Plug in Shaq and Pinckney and it’s the same defense or better than years past. Not because they’re any more athletic or versatile but they stay in the right position, don’t take bad angles, and they tackle consistently. They also had a knack for timely blitzes. Hope Flagg, Brooks, Huff, and Cave get it figured out before next year.

Baker's got to go. Period. Personnel issues aside (which definitely need to be addressed), our Defense is very undisciplined, it's too **** slow to adjust, and the players just don't fear or respect Baker. I've never seen him get in a player's a&&. Defense is so much about emotion, and he just doesn't have that fire and nastiness that I want in my DC.

And Manny's schemes are not elite, so him thinking he just needs a yes man to run his defense for him and step in to hand hold from time to time is not what we need.

3-4 can and does work, but we don't have the personnel for that and we don't recruit the 0/1 tech guys nationally that would be needed to anchor a 3-4. We'd end up trying to force guys like Nesta and Ford to hold down that spot, and they would get killed. And we'd have to have a huge stable of LBs to be the playmakers - which we clearly do not have. Would take way too long trying to implement.

Just find a good up and coming DC from a reputable P5 program who runs an attacking, athletic 4-3 scheme and call it a day.

Linebacker play is absolutely bad, not saying diaz was perfect but the difference in how diaz calls a game vs how baker call one is glaring. It needs to be addressed
 
Baker is a position corch at best. If Manny won't move on the let him corch LB's and Manny can run his D.

Mushchamp would be the obvious fix, but a guy like that is not going to come here no matter how much money we offer if he does not have 100% control of HIS defense.

I get it you hate baker and think he sucks. that's fine, but you might want to get someone who can fit what it is we recruit. It takes certain types to have a good 3-4. Maybe that's what Aranda took over an 11 win team and hasn't won a game yet while his D is getting smashed.

I don't care what front or scheme we run, I just want a coordinator who is competent. The whole "we can only do one thing because of recruiting base bro" is as lazy as the "4-3 cover 2 bro" and "pro style bro" thought. South Florida kids are some of the best athletes in the country, they can play anything, we just need a good coach.

He's the hot name right now. Came from OSU. Is this the first year he's been a DC and what has he done at as a DC. I admit i don't know much about him. However he has a good unit this year and is a young guy.

Or maybe Aranda isn’t going to have instant success, either, given what he inherited for his scheme.

Exactly. That rigidity of thinking of 4-3 only is totally idiotic.

Last year is a lot easier than this year would be. He got rid of Enos and all of Enos's hires with the exception of Ron Dugans. On the defensive side of the ball is pretty much all Manny's direct hires and Baker is a friend and former colleague.

So, we'll see if Manny truly has the killer mentality depending on remaining games. IMO, Baker is auditioning to keep his job over the next 4 weeks. The thing is, if we lose to VT, then WF, and get rolled by UNC, then Baker's done. If Baker sucks ***, but we still win, then Manny will keep him.

Our defense has no idea what contain and setting the edge means. That's my biggest problem, it was like that with Manny and now with Baker.

Manny had better players along the front, like 2 deep of really good DL and he had way better DBs. matter of fact everything he had was better.

Watching UGA getting diced up, tells me that u need great offense to win games and you need great offensive players. You can have a really good D with a strong 2 deep defensive front, we don't have that now but we have a good amount of potential who could be great with another offseason.

I dont think Diaz will fire Baker, he was ok canning the whole offense but they are not his people, the defensive staff are his boys, that includes Baker. I'm not certain Baker is the problem though. I maintain the positional coaching that's supposed to improve the players fundamentals is not good enough across the board.

My point is anyone believing Manny is getting fired is talking out their ***. I agree their needs to be staff changes on defense, starting with Baker, Rumph, and Patke.

I see our miscommunication, keep Many and replace Baker & Rumph with Raymond.
