Name that Defense

Why would you want a system that lessens the impact of your most talented players and the ones you have the most access to?

How would a defense built on speed and aggressiveness lessen the impact of our players?

Go look at the impact plays made by the guys who play AQM, Chad Thomas and Anthony Moten positions on the Wisconsin roster. Ole GoldenShowers says he doesn't care who makes the plays. Thats fine in theory. I think south Florida D-lineman have had enough of being asked to be cheeseburgers and coal shovelers by Miami the last 5 years. It certainly wouldn't be taking advantage of their best skills. I have no interest in minimizing what they do best.

Hey Samaje Perine you're a great north-south runner. Lets get you on some jet sweeps. DeShaun Watson we're gonna need you not to utilize your ability in the QB run game because the system calls you for you sacrifice your best attributes.

Let me explain it to you simply:

The way the defense works is that the DL slant and stunt all over the place, freeing up a rusher.

However, this doesn't mean the DL can't also pressure the QB.

But most importantly, it doesn't matter. You are trading the DL glory for LB glory. I don't really care who gets the stops, I just want the stops.

I'm aware of how it works. Continue to be as condescending as you like.

I'm not a fan. Didn't say it was an awful defense. Didn't say Aranda is a bad DC. His numbers are inflated by the offenses he consistently plays but it isn't like he is running with the most talent either.

Name a DC that has done more recently? His defense is elite.

The only reason you aen't a fan is b/c you don' understand what the defense is, how it works, and the types of players that work in it. You simply don't know enough, and that's ok I'm attempting to explain it to you.

Your argument would be going better if you approached it like LuCane who has actually tried to have a constructive argument rather than resorting to being a condescending douche and acting like you're smarter than everyone.

Oh why thank you, you're the best.

He's had soft schedules for three years and has taken advantage of it. The offense has been a top 6 time of possession team for all of his seasons there. They're the perfect traditional Big Ten team that plays in the weaker half of the conference. Any time he has played any team with a pulse not named USC all of a sudden that D isn't so elite. Sometimes it has been downright awful. In other words he's perfect right where he is. He should take the Purdue job next season win 7-8 a year with that defense and become a hot name for a bigger job.

Just looking at how Aranda made a JAG like Cichy look filthy dominant makes me salivate at what he can do with real athletes.

LOL so being the #1 scoring defense at Wisconsin playing the Big 10 isn't good enough? Who exactly is out there who has done more? You still fail to answer who you think is a better defensive coach in FBS than Dave Aranda right now, not named Saban, Smart, Brown, or Narduzzi?

The 4-3 vs. 3-4 argument is so pointless.

With all these spread and uptempo offenses, show me a defense that lines up with four linemen with their hands on the ground on every play.

You won't find it.

Everybody is multiple nowadays. You have to be. What's more important is philosophy.

Some of the ******** are making The Big Ten out to be the freaking Mac.

So not only do you not understand schemes , you don't know jack about football in general .

This thread is over ran by potato.

Everyone understands the philosophy is different between Aranda and Doritos 3-4.

1. Those are NFL teams playing with a whole different level of athlete
2. How many SFL pass rushers play in a 3-4 or asked to go into coverage on a consistent basis? I get the exotic look and disguising who the rushers are in a 3-4, but I don't really care to have our best pass rushers in coverage ever. With the type of pass rushers you can get in SFL, exotic blitzing looks shouldn't be all that necessary, but just another tool you can use occasionally when necessary.

I'm not completely against a 3-4, but why employ something that isn't natural for your talent base?

This guy doesnt get it

i think he gets it just fine. i don't think aranda supporters want to hear it is all. plus i don't see miami hiring aranda. he isn't leaving wisconsin.

i think a 4-3 base is easier to sell to south florida kids. i don't want to see aqm or thomas , demetrius jackson, mike smith, scott patchan dropping into coverage ever. coach d did that way to much.

u can be agressive in a 3-4 wade phillips denver broncos does it. i saw it with todd orlando for houston today. doesn't mean kids in south florida want to play in a 3-4 when play in 4-3 base in hs.

if ricth hires aranda i think most of us who want a 4-3 will be fine and cheer for him to do well here. i think if they don't though those want aranda are gonna throw a hissy fit and ask to fire richt already.

I was being sarcastic

Ok. I don't know how there can be a discussion on how a 3-4 defense can be aggressive and not bring up **** Labue and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
That's about as aggressive as you can get on defense. IMO.

Now for the more educated than me. Please explain the difference or nuance between how they ran it as opposed to others.

It seemed to me it was more about speed rather than size especially at the OLB spots. The MLB aren't huge either. Secondary very aggressive coverage as well. Blitz from everywhere all the time.

LeBeau system is like an inbetween point from say a Parcells 3-4 and a Phillips 3-4. They do 2-gap a bit, and their front is definitely a little larger.

The main feature in his system that makes it different is the zone blitz concept that he and Dom Capers essentially invented. For whatever reason, these kind of defenses are hard for college players to grasp conceptually, especially at first. It usually results in some pretty horrible defense the first year of install (in college).

i love those defense but what are the odds college kids can pick up a zone blitz scheme. which is what **** ran at pitt. he was the inventor of the zone blitz scheme as a whole.

if they couldn't get the concepts donofrio wanted them to learn how do u expect them to learn zone blitz concepts. labue ran one of the most complicated 2 gap schemes in football. and yes he ran 2 gap scheme 3-4 despite the zone blitz behind it.

his dl guys never got sacks that wasn't there job the lb's got the sacks
