At the last game the crowd took to clapping loudly along with Perry when he was behind center on the snap count ..... it was amusing and got more crowd involvement as the game progressed .... any opinions on what effect, if any, this has on him, team, opposition etc... didnt appear to but ..... curious
Every pro team has a signal set up in case qb sees an advantage and wants the ball before the snap count.our own team back in the 80s had hand signals between the qbs and receivers etc.if they saw something both qb and receivers could be on the same page as far as what routes, hot receiver etc.On the contrary, just about everybody does it now. more discernible than any previous version of non verbal communication
Guess you don't watch pro football every qb calls out a code word or waves their hands when they want the ball.even manning won a super bowl every time he yelled Omaha everyone in the stadium and on tv knew the snap was coming.it's just not a cmr thing. That is hilarious. Richt is so predictable and remedial the crowd basically turned his scheme into a children's sing-along-song. Mork should be ashamed. Lmao.

Despise it to begin with. Wanted to rip off my own head hearing the entire West End Zone (probably the stadium) clap along. Felt the robotic nature of our entire offense had infiltrated the crowd. The worst part was the timing was almost exactly the same each time. Clap, pause, Clap, pause, snap. 2018 Miami HurricaneZombies.
Agreed, but it's also embarrassing when the home crowd is more interested in getting on the jumbotron dancing and smiling after we've just thrown a pick; and clapping with our snap cadence, than winning the **** game.
Some of these recent games, and I'd bet Pitt was the worst, if I came to our stadium as an opposing or neutral fan, I'd think we were some of the corniest MF'ers on the planet. We're losing to Duke, DUKE, and the jumbotron is showing 15 smiling, dancing fools dressed in orange and green after we just turned the **** ball over. We're trying to drive down the field to tie the game, last gasp, and the fvckin sound guy is blasting music and home fans are screaming as we're trying to line up on offense. WTF? People need a smack in the face, man.
But is the nfl crowd clapping and yelling these code words along with Manning?...NO!!...Because there is a respect level there...a level this Offense and Richt have yet to achieve...honestly, who the **** claps along with the QB? I guess the fans determined that was more entertaining than the actual offensive game plan and I don't blame them...
NOooooooo. The center doesnt snap it when he wants to.. In the huddle, a count will be given to snap the ball after the clap. Otherwise, the offense has no advantage knowing when the ball is going to be snapped. The clapping is to tell the center to hike the ball when he's (center) ready. He doesn't always snap it once the clap is made. In most cases he waits a second or two to see what the LB's are doing to see if a blitz is coming.
Article about why OK State starting using the clapping cadence
http://landgrantgauntlet.com/2017/04/06/film-room-what-is-the-clap-cadence/
"So what is the clap cadence, and why do so many teams use it?
With this cadence, the quarterback claps his hands to signs to the center that the ball should be snapped. This tactic is considered to be more effective than oral cadences, as the sound of the clap slices through the crowd more effectively than a vocal one. This also keeps everyone’s eyes forward, as opposed to looking at the center to watch when the ball is snapped.
One would think that this style could get predictable, and it does on occasion, but the count can be changed up just like any other cadence. The quarterback can mix up the timing by going on a two count after the clap, or by faking a clap motion to try to get defenses to jump.
Both the fake clap and the changing of the count are key to keeping defenses honest, and if they are not properly utilized, the defense will be able to consistently jump the snap. However, quarterbacks who are familiar with the system know how to utilize these tactics to mess with a defense’s head. In those cases, this cadence can be more effective than them all."
