Myth Busters: Lack of NFL Talent

All these stats tell me it’s not a talent, recruiting, or coaching issue. Now with the portal it’s going to be tough to sell the “team” as opposed to “me” concept. Too many players out for themselves and i think that is what has plagued the program for quite awhile. Opt outs and transfer at will makes a good argument for the case of “all about me”. No doubt we have had some great talent.

The top end talent still isn’t there. We had the best offense in our history yet none of our WRs were picked. How do yall translate this?
This is what matters.

If you have a team full of 4-7th rounders, you're not going to be anything special. Pretty much any program can do that.

What separates the Playoff & Championship caliber teams from the rest of the pack is the ability to collect 1st & 2nd round talent.

In 3 portal classes, Mario has had 1 player drafted before round 5. Talk about bargain bin shopping.

I think it’s a combination of coaching , players and administration. We’ve recruited well enough to compete in the acc except at Qb. We don’t seem to develop players. Whether that’s on coaches or effort by players probably both.
We don’t seem to do in game adjustments well.
In my opinion we don’t scheme well to put the ball in playmakers hands. We seem to lack emotion in games that we’re favored in.
What gets me is it’s been the same under every coaching staff. That’s the administration they need to do a much better job on the hiring process. It’s many things and there’s enough blame to go around to every aspect of the program.

Absolutely…but, this thread was strictly about our inability to win the ACC. That’s y I’m making a concerted effort to narrow the scope to focus on our conference peers vs. Nat’l.

I actually think this is more damning… the two teams that played in Charlotte this year only had 1 player between them go top 150; SMU didn’t have a single player drafted before like round 5 or 6? The teams we are losing to are not walking in with behemoth rosters either.

Also - we need to hire whoever is recruiting defensive players for Cal!
