Myth Busters: Lack of NFL Talent

University of Southern California is an even better example. They have fired better coaches than most programs can even hire. Take a look at the culture that Los Angeles has. Ask yourself just how bad were the hires of: Lane Kiffin, Steve Sarkisian, Ed Orgeron and now Lincoln Riley?

No they’re not for multiple reasons b/c

1. They’ve won their conference multiple times since 2004

2. Won their division multiple times since 2004

3. They’ve won. 10+ multiple times since 2004

4. They’ve won multiple NY6 bowl games since 2004

We’re in a class of our own.

We love comparing ourselves to other big time programs that had previous success, but have now underachieved in the last 20+ years. I’m guilty of that as well sometimes.

I don’t know if it’s to soften the blow of our poor performance or deflect from our own deficiencies. Kind of like justifying our mediocrity. “School A and B haven’t been good in 20 years, so we aren’t the only ones.” I’m not saying majority of our fans do this, but I have seen it on occasion. It is an interesting topic of conversation to see how other schools have fell off, I just don’t like using their lack of success to justify our lack of success.

USC, Nebraska, Texas, and Tennessee are the usual suspects, although both UT’s have experienced a lot more success the last few years. As you pointed out with USC, they have clearly had more success than us since 2004. Stinks, but we are in a class of our own.

Give them a couple of years and see where they stand. Our last NC winning coach was Larry Coker. Theirs was Pete Carol.

How many Conference Championships has USC won since then? National Titles? 10+ games?

The numbers since their NC coach left are quite comparable to ours BUT the difference between us is, they got those numbers using Lane Kiffin, Ed Orgeron, Steve Sarkisian and now Lincoln Riley. Where did these coaches excel? Away from major urban environments.

Top 150 picks

Cal - 3
Louisville - 3
Miami - 2
VT - 2
FSU - 2
BC - 2
UNC - 1
UVA - 1
Clemson - 1

The top end talent still isn’t there. We had the best offense in our history yet none of our WRs were picked. How do yall translate this?

Once you translate GT and Syracuse not being on your list and Clemson with 1… you’ll have your answer.

While we didn't have the volume of top end talent one would want, we had the #1 overall pick. Additionally, one of our UDFAs was a consensus AA. And overall, we had the most draft picks in the ACC.

We should've done better than 6-2 in conference this year. (I do think we were slightly unlucky overall tho)

Nice try, boss. That’s not how that works, but I applaud the effort.

Cal went 6-7
UL went 9-4

1. How many WRs were drafted from UL & Cal?

How many WRs from the ACC were All Americans?

The more some of ya’ll try ur damnest….nvm, u’re right. I’m winding down my time anyway.

Reading this thread I learned we need a coach who is an elite recruiter to give us the talent to get back to the promised land. Coaching and player development isn't that important to winning. Jimmy won by recruiting, not coaching.

And you better have a NFL QB every year as well.

The last Canes QB to throw a TD in the NFL?

December 2, 2007: Vinny Testaverde

Elite QBs can cover up massive warts the way Cam Ward did this year

32 teams’s management dont think our draft eligible WRs are good enough to make their team better is my translation.
