2027 Myson Johnson-Cook 2027 RB

What’s the connection to Kentucky? Or are they just giving him more money and pitching SEC

The connection?

He's from Decatur, IL. Look at the map. It's very likely that he's watched a lot of Kentucky games in his lifetime.

You're making it seem a lot closer than it really is. I doubt his family would drive 5.5-7 hours to watch a Kentucky game lol. With traffic (there always is), that drive through Indiana is god awful.

This is why having an elite qb committed early can only help
All of this, being regionally attached to Cook also helps.
If our QB really takes off it only adds to our down hill momentum.
This could be a fun class to watch as it rounds out.

Come on, man, cut the crap. I never said he drove to games. Please show me where I said that.

You've heard of TV, correct? Like, you're aware of its invention and existence, right?

And you've been to stores where, say, sports merchandise has been sold, correct? And it's not just t-shirts and hats for schools within a 1-hour radius, that would be accurate?

Finally, you're aware of how far the driving distance is from, say, Jacksonville to Miami, would that be fair?

So, yeah, the distance is not that great. And for the record, my entire family is from St. Louis, so, you know, I've had a bit of experience flipping around the midwestern TV dial (sure, in the pre-cable days too) and finding a bunch of games on TV that are not just "Missouri" games.

We may have a bit of a distorted impression, what with living in a big long *****-state like Florida. Maybe we aren't used to being able to drive 5 hours in every geographic direction. But there are parts of this great country where you can do so.

Thus, the assumption that it's INSANE for a kid from Decatur, IL to have interest or affinity with a school in Lexington, KY is just...incorrect.

Are there actually people who watch Kentucky football games?

Quite a few watch basketball. Why you choose to like a school...is up to you.

I'd also add, since @ST26 probably doesn't know this, that the St. Louis Cardinals (baseball) AAA affiliate was, for many years, based in Louisville, the Louisville Redbirds. That team was originally based in Springfield, IL (near Decatur). The Cardinals' AAA team is in Memphis now, but some people might be surprised that Midwesterners often follow teams that are more than an hour away from where they live.

No offense, but you're reaching big time here. Assuming that kids from Decatur, Illinois have any interest in the University of Kentucky is a wild statement lol. Unless he had a family connection to Kentucky, which he could certainly have, I highly doubt he's watched a lot of Kentucky games in his life. And for the games he has watched, it's probably for the same reason you and I do—college football is the greatest sport on earth, and there's nothing better than sitting on your couch watching football for 12 hours lol. It's probably nothing more than having Kentucky vs Mississippi State on in the background while scrolling Instagram or Twitter.

If they’re paying more I get it. If we don’t want to pay I also get it.

But the kid needs to realize that running back is not a position that schools are willing to break the bank on and neither are NFL teams.

Kids are trying to find the right balance of playing time, draft profile, and longevity.

I would not want to be an every down back in a team that isn’t full of savages that block, throw or catch.

It won’t guarantee success/yards/production. Especially in the sec.

However, there is always the saying “make as much as you can whenever you can”.

He can demand a hefty one year nil now and bet on himself and test tue transfer market if he balls. He can likely demand immediate playing time at Kentucky.

Miami can afford to not break the bank. Kentucky can risk breaking the bank for an extra W or two. Get some eyes on the program and maybe secure some more commits in the future if the kid runs for 1k as a freshman. And maybe he loves it down there and stays another year.

We can win with him or without him. That’s not any sour grapes, that’s just facts.

But it doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t go full court press to land his commitment. It just means he’s not in the position to strong arm us.
He isn’t Ward or Mensah.

Well, you're wrong. I have plenty of midwestern friends and family who went to various schools throughout the midwest. SOME WERE EVEN OUT OF STATE SCHOOLS!

And once again, you misstate what I said. I did not say that MJC does or does not have interest in Kentucky. Someone asked "what is the connection", and I pointed out the geographic connection.

Now, if the kid was visiting Alaska, you might have a point. But, again, a "five hour drive" is not profound or problematic, especially when it comes to simply comprehending why a person might have an interested in a university that is only 5 hours away.

For the record, I grew up on the north side of Orlando, and it was a FOUR-HOUR DRIVE to Miami. Somehow, I still saw games on TV and I still formed an affinity to UM, which turned into my application, admission, and enrollment.
