If you don't need Xs and Os, and all you need "is the best players," are you saying that Virginia had better players than us? Nebraska? GT? Duke 2013?

It's a whole package. I really like the combo of a great talent guy at HC with good X&O guys below him. Of course most of them have to be able to recruit as well. That's part of it admittedly.

This... You need both, but if you have the Xs and Os staff you can beat better talented teams. Look no further than our own team and our losses.

I don't disagree Jimmies and Joes are more important than Xs and Os. But, to say Xs and Os are irrelevant and you just need the best players, flies in the face of what we're watching. Our team is not the most talented team in the country. It is more talented than some of the teams we've lost to, though.

You don't get a like for this, you get the full rep. We have Dalvin against FSU, and we win that game, 100%. The only part I disagree with is that you still need Xs and Os. It's not as important in CFB but you still need competent guys there. Jimbo is good at that, but not only that he is smart enough to hire the right guys. Look at the game against them, they adjusted, they denied what was there in the first half. Their guys adjusted and we didn't. That being said in the end it was Jalen Ramsey and more importantly Dalvin. The foundation starts with recruiting. Cause good Xs and Os gets you a Cutliffe coached Duke team with no talent. Elite recruiting with no Xs and Os gets you Auburn with Cam and Fairly under Chizik. Then you talk about Michael Jackson, like you said how are we going into Bama to grab DBs? Saban is first and foremost a DB coach and we are going to grab someone he could care less about in his own state? Not only that but DBs grow trees in SFLA, but wait it gets better, this year in SFLA is the best in over 10 years.

Lastly I'm a white guy that hates when people play the race card, but you gotta call it how it is. How is this guy still around? How can you justify to keep him around when the guy before was already fired at this point? Then you add the fact that Randy played here and coached here. How isn't this racist? The worst part is yet to come IMHO, this will just be more ammo for our opponents, and they are already loaded to begin with.

X's and O's I like but that's secondary to me, every coach can get by with superior recruiting which we don't have.

Wait... So the only thing Miami needed to beat FSU this year was Miami having Dalvin Cook at running back???

Of course, there is a minimum threshold of talent that a program must have to be able to win. No one is arguing that point. For example, FAMU could have the greatest Xs and Os coach in the world but that still would not be enough to overcome a talent disparity against a top 25 team.

The issue is that once you are at or surpass that minimum threshold, you have to good coaching to win. Miami is well past this threshold. Talent is not why this years Miami's football team is losing. Miami has more than enough talent to beat every team on the schedule. Sadly, Miami only has enough coaching to win 6 games. You could give Golden 10 Dalvin Cooks and 10 Jalen Ramseys and he would still lose 3-4 games.

There is more to the problem than just missing on Cook, but if we land Cook we beat them this year. The statement is in response to all of those that use the mantra that 'one player doesn't change a team'. That mantra is also funny because when speaking about FSU, those same will then in turn use that mantra and say FSU would suck if it wasn't for one player in Winston. I have been very open in criticism of the staff from an Xs and Os aspect but the foundation ultimately is recruiting. It is why we were able to win a ship under Larry Coker because that team did have 10 Jalen Ramseys and 10 Dalvin's Cooks. Like my example with Chizik and Cutliffe, elite talent can cover up bad coaching and take you to the elite level. Finally read my post, the one thing I disagreed with the OP was that Xs and Os do matter even though they are not as important as the players at this level.

If Miami had Dalvin Cook they still would not have beaten FSU this year.

You are right, there are a few times when one player can change a team. And that one player is going to be a QB. Like Cam as you mentioned, Vince Young, Johnny Manziel, etc... But those do not grown on trees. It is not a good strategy to base your program's success on hitting the QB lottery, though.

Your thoughts about 2001 Miami supports my point. Think about it. In order to overcome Larry Coker's coaching, Miami had to have a team that had 17 first round draft picks. It took the most talented team ever assembled to overcome that coaching deficiency.

It is much easier to cover up a talent deficiency with good coaching than to cover up bad coaching with talent. In order for Gene Chizik to win at Auburn, he had to have one of the greatest college QBs of all time. And what happened when Cam Newton left? Auburn went 3-8. Do you really want a coach that must rely on somehow finding the next Cam? Do you really want a coach that requires 2001 Miami level talent to win? No, you don't because the odds of those things happening are very slim.

At the upper level of college football where Miami plays, coaching and talent are equally important. The unique thing about Miami is that it sits in such a talented area that the so called "3 stars" from the area are in reality 4 and 5 star guys. All Miami needs is a good Xs and Os coach to come in and harness the talent and Miami will be elite.
