My very early pre-season vibe

This is a 10-2 type team ( split the coin toss games of ND, UF, UL, and SMU) but we’ll go 9-3 because we do our annual lose an acc game to a mediocre team. Most likely Pitt.
I really hate saying this but if we were 10-2 and split those 4 like you noted it really can't be beating our rivals and losing multiple ACC games. Getting to ACCCG is hugely important and I don't wanna see a scenario where we finish 3rd in conference and get left out.

Could see a season like Clemson had last year where they lost both of their tough non-conf games (Georgia, South Carolina), lost 1 ACC game, and made the ACCCG and won it. We'll all be saying the sky is falling (me included) in September but I'd personally take this outcome.

The new offense has potential but last year's offense was #1 in the country by multiple advanced metrics and at one point was breaking the all-time record for third down conversion rate, tough to match.

Last year's offense was a Jeremiah Smith signing away from being in the conversation with 2019 LSU.

Of all years to have fking worst D in known history.... arrgh. We are cursed.

thats the most frustrating part...worst D and we were still like 8-9 points away from an undefeated regular season

A mediocre defense we are in the ACC champ game and even with a close loss probably in the playoffs.

If we go, as an example, 11-1 in the regular season, beat ND, UiF, FSU, and drop 1 ACC game....and go to Charlotte and win the ACC, earning the 3 seed in the playoffs as a 12-1 ACC Champion, and lose in a close game to the #6 seed in the quarterfinals on a neutral field (let's say we lose to Alabama as UGA wins the SEC)......that's a FAILURE? The entire season is a failure? A team who has NEVER won the ACC, nor made the playoffs one time in 20+ years in the league, and has won 11 regular season games ZERO times in 20+ years, if we go 11-1, win the league and lose in the playoffs, the season is a complete failure.

Y'all smoke some outrageous weed.

I will absolutely not bet anything on the offense "being about the same". I don't think it will be bad, and should get better as the season goes. But we had the first overall pick in the draft and a generational talent at QB lol. Offense is taking a step back, full stop. Defense will be better, so it should be more balanced overall.
We still have a great OL. We have three grown men at RB who will know what to do. We have a TE who is being touted as the best player on the team.
Drop off is expected at WR but there's good mixture of young guys and veterans from the portal.
QB was great last year obviously but he did do a lot of risky plays and took some sacks.
The new QB may not be as good physically but he has experience and knows how to beat good teams and destroy teams of ACC caliber. He is a Veteran who is coming here to compete for a Championship. Let's not make it seem like he is chopped liver.

Last year looked like LSU '19.
This year will look more like UGA '22.
Different styles but still good.

I think the schedule may help us with ND starting a new QB away in the first game and Lagway’s shoulder injury. Best case scenario was to play those two early.

I can see us getting beat at home against the Irish. I wish that game were later in the season, but how we react to either victory or defeat will tell us a lot about the staff and the players.
That’s definitely the game we’re most likely to lose. Fortunately, it’s the least important game on the schedule. A non conference loss in week one means nothing in the big picture.

Trumpycane did some research and we are 8-1 @Pitt since 2000
Pitt is the one ACC team we have absolutely dominated since joining the conference. You could say something like Wake Forest but we rarely play them. We played Pitt every year when there was divisions in the conference and outside of their season crushing win in 2017, I think they’ve won one other game against us the whole time.
