My Take on Miami v. FAU

BK did not get sacked once on Saturday and got pressured maybe 5 times. Add our 2 backs rushed for over 100 yards each. I don't see how so many people are trying to blame our QB missing easy throws on the OL. It makes no sense. Our QB is not playing good football right now and it has nothing to do with the OL.

What type of offense did UM run under Golden? I imagine Richt's offense is more complex than a conventional spread offense which may be why Kaaya is having issues. Honestly, I'm just confused as to how Miami needed a full half to get going against a bottom tier C-USA team.

You shouldn't be, it happens to everybody. Literally every team plays poorly at some point, the good ones just get it under control and don't do it against other good teams. Miami got it under control and it wasn't against a good team. This could be cause for concern, but let's just wait until it proves to be before we freak out.

you will learn that a rational perspective is rare here and often elicits ignorant reactions from those incapable of rationality

Good post BTW and 100% agree

Oh I already know that, but for some reason I can't help myself. And thanks.

I think after 20+ games ,Kaaya is what he is. A very good but not great QB.

He has to throw the ball away when he is in trouble because he cant run, so his comp % will never be what it should be.

I'm thankful we have him because our QB bench is not an option but I dont expect him to carry this team.

Kaaya struggled with his footwork and his drops. When you're supposed to take a 5 step drop, plant and throw, you can mesd up accuracy and timing by not using correct footwork. I've never seen BK overthrow so many open guys. It's part of the transition from running mostly shotgun as a freshman/sophomore to being under center a lot now. I see the FAU game as an aberration. The good news is, in the second quarter, the coaches made some changes. The easy swing passes helped get him back in a groove. Plus the offensive line began to overpower FAU as the game went on. Brad has to improve on taking what the defense gives him. FAU took away the downfield throws by playing off the ball in a soft zone. If the defense wants to play off the receivers, take the five yard hitch or the bubble screen. Let the athletes get the ball in open space and do work. Once the defense reacts to the short passing game, you can start taking shots down field

After rewatching the game its quite clear that kaaya just had a bad game. He was indecisive and shaky as **** the entire game. The announcer put a lot of emphasis on the o-line but they simply weren't the problem. Kaaya had a lot of miscues as well as drops.

As stated before, i really like how Richt recognized kaaya shakiness and put the game into the hands of the skill players and oline. The 2nd drive of the 2nd half was masterful and the oline with marquez set the tone.

Marquez punished the fau linebackers and they wanted NO parts. I really like the way Richt attacked the defense by making them run sideline to sideline chasing the wr screens then back to physicality with big quez.

The play Mark Walton scored on with the spin move was just as much a product of the playcalling as it was Waltons ability. We had run a number of wr screens that drive and fau was cheating toward it. We lined up in the formation, faked the screen and handed it off to Walton. Just beautiful playcalling from Richt.

I also like the personell grouping for the wr screens. We have great lead blockers grouped with each screen runner. Its perfectly matched and dugans got those boys blocking. Berrios is a problem in the block game. Strong little latin man.

Punt team looks good. Kickoff and kick return look suspect but Travis Homer is a gawd. Dude is just a footballer. Special kid.

Im still on wait and see mode with diaz but i really really like our tackling. We are tackling much better, we have excellent conditioning, and the alignments are really good.

We are rarely out of position or mismatched when it comes to how many guys we have guarding the opponent on each side of the field.

One thing i hated most about goldens defense was how far the dbs ans backers played off the ball. I dont care how good/athletic you are. If you are playing 30 yards off the ball its hard to come up and make plays on short routes and quick passes.

We are now aligned much closer to the line of scrimmage and in better position, presnap, to make a play.

Rayshawn jenkins had a **** of a game as well as chad thomas. Jenks missed on that one td but for the most part he played a great game. Chad was relentless
They has nothing for him.

Al golden would have lost this game. Great job by richt reigning in the offense and allowing the oline to make a statement.

Blasphemy!!!!! AG was waiting for the dust and pillars to settle before he could begin to unveil his plan. what most dont know is that he only got to page 36 of his 300 page binder. With enough time, no one was going to stop him. He was going to take C-USA and the MAC by storm!!!!

Hahahahaha i would love to actually see what was in that binder. It probably had a full porno strip of Donofrio back in his playing days at penn state.

It always baffled me how a guy, who had never won anything anywhere, had a 300 page binder on success and victory.
How?

Did he win a Natty at Pedo St. as a player?

A lot of pessimism and optimism around the "victory" against FAU. Just a snap shot of what I saw from this game:

Negatives:

-O-line is still very bad. We desperately need to keep Donaldson and try to flip Telfort and Leatherwood. I think the O-line recruiting can't afford to be mediocre. This is what happens when you surround two 4/5 star guys with a slew of low 3 star guys. O line is so important (see how Bama's O line make their weak QBs look like College All Stars.

-Old habits die hard. I noticed Kaaya continue to have those happy feet and he missed on several wide open plays. I think the O line is part blame, but when ur a big time QB, you have to shake that off. Sometimes I see Peyton in him, but other times I see Jay Cutler. We also saw those mental lapse in the discipline dept regarding false starts, chop blocks, and holding.

Positives:

-The defense is nasty. They are starting to light people up

-We have a two, possibly 3 headed monster at RB. Our RBs look sooooooo much better than last year. Walton is explosive and Yearby is looking like that back we recruited b4 the broken leg.

-Our young Pups ain't so young. Shaq is directing traffic and cleaning up, while McCloud and Pinckney are flying torpedoes. Richards is making big catches and letting those who are covering him that they can't cover him.

-We got a couple of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for talking trash!

-Richt saw Kaaya struggle and got him comfortable. Just like a jump shooter needs to see a bucket go in, even a lay up, QBs who struggle sometimes need to see a reception. Richt working w Kaaya is going to pay off immediately.

-We have a real coaching staff. What I saw was coaching on the sidelines, not berating or aggrevation, annoyance, or confusion displayed, like the previous coaching staff did.

All in all, we should've beat them by 60, but FAU is not as far behind as we think. Sometimes when you play against other players from the neighborhood, they have a chip on their shoulder. This was their SB, and when you take any D1 team for granted, even a sub division D1 team, it can bite you.

FSU struggled against UCF during Donte Culpepper's year. USC struggled against Fresno State during their 2005 championship game run. Bama just struggled against Western KY on the same day. It happens. The biggest positive that comes out of this is that now there's film on what's wrong. I fully expect that come next week, we will see a complete performance against App St.

No, they didn't. FSU beat UCF 46-14 the only time they played them when Culpepper was at UCF.

Yeah, i think so. But that doesnt count. He was a weak *** blocking te.
Nothing about that gave him added insight to "deserve victory"

Alabama was tied 3-3 with Western Kentucky, 17-3 at half and 24-3 after 3.

This will be a good test for us before we go on the road to GT. Even if it's close for a bit - we'll pull away as the game goes on.

The transitive property doesn't work in football but if it's being mentioned, Western Kentucky went 8-0 in C-USA last year including a 35-19 win against FAU. Western Kentucky began C-USA play in 2014 once App and Georgia Southern joined the Sun Belt so it could be argued that the Sun Belt is a better conference.

Regardless, the FAU game likely isn't indicative of how good of a team Miami is and i'm **** sure that the FAMU game means nothing as they also were torched by Coastal Carolina in Week 2.

The only time FSU has played UCF was in 1995. Daunte Culpepper's freshman season. FSU won 46-14. UCF was still 1-AA at the time.

Richt knows what he has in a QB, I'll assume he's been working hard with him this week, getting him settled down and working on footwork. I also expect to see some adjustments, based on how we did make adjustments against FAU. I know, strange as it may seem that's something we haven't seen in YEARS.
