First off, shout out to all my Canes brethrens who bleed that true Orange and Green.

A lot of pessimism and optimism around the "victory" against FAU. Just a snap shot of what I saw from this game:

Negatives:

-O-line is still very bad. We desperately need to keep Donaldson and try to flip Telfort and Leatherwood. I think the O-line recruiting can't afford to be mediocre. This is what happens when you surround two 4/5 star guys with a slew of low 3 star guys. O line is so important (see how Bama's O line make their weak QBs look like College All Stars.

-Old habits die hard. I noticed Kaaya continue to have those happy feet and he missed on several wide open plays. I think the O line is part blame, but when ur a big time QB, you have to shake that off. Sometimes I see Peyton in him, but other times I see Jay Cutler. We also saw those mental lapse in the discipline dept regarding false starts, chop blocks, and holding.

Positives:

-The defense is nasty. They are starting to light people up

-We have a two, possibly 3 headed monster at RB. Our RBs look sooooooo much better than last year. Walton is explosive and Yearby is looking like that back we recruited b4 the broken leg.

-Our young Pups ain't so young. Shaq is directing traffic and cleaning up, while McCloud and Pinckney are flying torpedoes. Richards is making big catches and letting those who are covering him that they can't cover him.

-We got a couple of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for talking trash!

-Richt saw Kaaya struggle and got him comfortable. Just like a jump shooter needs to see a bucket go in, even a lay up, QBs who struggle sometimes need to see a reception. Richt working w Kaaya is going to pay off immediately.

-We have a real coaching staff. What I saw was coaching on the sidelines, not berating or aggrevation, annoyance, or confusion displayed, like the previous coaching staff did.

All in all, we should've beat them by 60, but FAU is not as far behind as we think. Sometimes when you play against other players from the neighborhood, they have a chip on their shoulder. This was their SB, and when you take any D1 team for granted, even a sub division D1 team, it can bite you.

FSU struggled against UCF during Donte Culpepper's year. USC struggled against Fresno State during their 2005 championship game run. Bama just struggled against Western KY on the same day. It happens. The biggest positive that comes out of this is that now there's film on what's wrong. I fully expect that come next week, we will see a complete performance against App St.

I got $100 on us at -5, so I'm really hoping for a blowout!

According to the OP, the offensive line played terrible. If they don't shore that up before Saturday, that line may be in danger. I'm still shocked that the line didn't open at -11.5 or somewhere in that range. Apparently Vegas doesn't think that Tennessee is overrated, or knows that people will assume that App is as good as they played in the UT game due to Saturday's game against Virginia Tech.

BK did not get sacked once on Saturday and got pressured maybe 5 times. Add our 2 backs rushed for over 100 yards each. I don't see how so many people are trying to blame our QB missing easy throws on the OL. It makes no sense. Our QB is not playing good football right now and it has nothing to do with the OL.

Watching the FAU game, FAU's offense was over matched at every level. It seems that the offensive line in that offense is supposed to go heads up and there aren't a lot of pulls or wham blocks and there was no use of misdirection. In that situation, a team that is overmatched in individual one on ones is going to have issues advancing the ball.

What type of offense did UM run under Golden? I imagine Richt's offense is more complex than a conventional spread offense which may be why Kaaya is having issues. Honestly, I'm just confused as to how Miami needed a full half to get going against a bottom tier C-USA team.

Honestly, it could be a little PTSD. The reason y I say he's part Cutler is b/c I saw what Cutler used to do whenever a little pressure collapse his bubble. He was so used to getting hit, it became 2nd nature to panic. Kaaya wasn't strong in the pocket, rushing throws and just looking jittery. Richt saw that, calmed him down by having him throw some easy screen passes. But, the o line wasn't good...they weren't deplorable, but our RBs were getting hit in the back field a lot and Kaaya did have that pressure applied to him at the on-set.

You shouldn't be, it happens to everybody. Literally every team plays poorly at some point, the good ones just get it under control and don't do it against other good teams. Miami got it under control and it wasn't against a good team. This could be cause for concern, but let's just wait until it proves to be before we freak out.

Alabama was tied 3-3 with Western Kentucky, 17-3 at half and 24-3 after 3.

This will be a good test for us before we go on the road to GT. Even if it's close for a bit - we'll pull away as the game goes on.

Kaaya was off. Plain and simple. Oline was not perfect in pass protection but they still allowed over 250 yards rushing. They were not the issue on offense.

The fact is we desperately needed these 2 tune-up games plus App St on the road before a bye week to work the kinks out and prepare the young kids for the conference grind. It couldn't have been set up any better.

Regarding the OL, it'll probably take some time. Most of the guys we got there plenty of other schools wanted....basically the same as most of the team. We had Kehoe, love his fire and passion, but I've said since the Dorsey says even....he was the weakest coach on the squad. That'll take some time undoing. There's guys with potential there, but they have to forget their bad habits, get in shape (hopefully they're on the way there), and get with what the new staff is teaching.

Line couldn't have been so horrible with two guys going over 100. Sure, Kaaya would like a little more time, but most of his misses were on him.

Love the increase in difficulty in stages, then a week off. Yet another reason I don't scoff at scheduling App State on the road.

you will learn that a rational perspective is rare here and often elicits ignorant reactions from those incapable of rationality

Good post BTW and 100% agree

In the beginning he got a little rocked by the kid that was all conference whos name im forgetting, after that he took too long to throw a couple of times, but those throws he missed he had protection, he got happy feet out of the blue, which i saw him have his freshman year not so much last year, i just feel he had a off night which happens to all QBs
