My One on One with Shalala

What is the unreasonable part?

When you don't consider how bad randy was and the effects of "the cloud", that's unreasonable.

The effects of the cloud? 9 scholarships over 3 years, 7 of which we'll be able to take this year as a result of nothing more than attrition (Dortch, Hope) and a few players getting kicked out for misconduct (Figs, Blue, Olsen). That's nothing.

As for negative recruiting, coaches from rival schools will be able to do that more effectively if Golden stays than they ever could by mentioning looming NCAA sanctions. All they have to do is point to the highly-ranked players who haven't been developed properly, the passive defensive scheme that doesn't appeal whatsoever to many local studs like Tim Irvin, Golden throwing his own players under the bus to defend his coaching methods, his record against decent or better opposition, and his inability to win a division as pathetic as the ACC Coastal.

USC is dealing with legitimate sanctions. We got shut out on NSD last year on all of our late uncommitted targets well after the NCAA ruling was announced. Golden failing to reel in Dixon, JC Jackson, Valentine, Ross, etc. and losing Powell/Gibbons had nothing to do with any cloud.
that completely disregards the 2.5 seasons of investigation, the end result of 9 scholarships does not accurately reflect the damage done recruiting. yes.. in a vacuum "9 scholarships" is nothing.. but that's not what "the cloud" is.. i hate the term, btw. regardless, the cloud isn't 9 scholarships it's the guys we lost because of the uncertainty of our future.

247 class rankings
2012 - 10th
2013 - 14th
2014 - 12th

Even if the cloud prevented us from having top five classes, there is more than enough talent on the roster for us to beat the living s*** out of every team in the conference other than FSU and Clemson. And we're on our way to failing to win the atrocious ACC Coastal once again, which is inexcusable and an absolute embarrassment for this program.

The NCAA sanctions were announced exactly one year ago (October 22, 2013), yet this staff still coaches scared, still blames players for failing to execute rather than taking blame for their ineffective defense, still gets curbstomped in primetime by any opponent with a pulse, still doesn't help blue-chip talent come close to reaching their potential, and still makes egregious errors in recruiting by passing on local studs they believe are too small. And they'll inevitably still fall short of winning the Coastal and will get skullf***ed by FSU in a few weeks to fall to 0-4 against our most bitter rival.

The cloud is gone, but all of these issues remain. There are no excuses.

His first fully recruited class will be seniors, next year. That said, I still think the admin HAS to get him to hand the keys to the defense to someone else. If he does that, I give him until his first senior class gets to hit the field with no qualms. I will NOT be on board if we don't change the the defense and staff. Actually, I would only be on board if we miraculously won out, won the acc champ game, and the bowl. Not expecting that to be remotely possible.

The sanctions were announced before the 2014 class signed, so the 3 years you posted tell a story. Only 2 recruiting classes were potentially affected by the cloud - 2012 (national story broke in August 2011), and 2013. 2012 was ranked 10, with 2013 ranked 14, and look, 2014, with no cloud is right in the middle at 12. One could easily conclude from those recruiting class rankings that the cloud had very minimal effect on recruiting.

Miami is the only University that doesn't see what a cash cow football is, shame, shame on Shalala she has ruined a once proud football program by being cheap

The time to get organized and rally is now. Every season ticket holder should have an email ready and send it off Sat. night after the Pitt game. We should have a rough outline form letter saying how we can not continue to financially support this team unless a change is made with the head coach. Don't bother to send me any renewal messages until then because I have no interest in renewal unless changes are made. Fire it off to a list of BOD and the Pres and AD. If a few thousand emails came in on the same day saying roughly the same thing coupled with (hopefully) missing bowl eligibility there would be immense pressure for change.

There is absolutely no way they can justify not making any changes with the coaching staff. Regardless, as long as Golden is here, I am done with this program. The university will not get one cent from me.

I'm not sure what the big deal here is. Donna isn't going to bad mouth the HC to a student.

Management 101 you ***** up, not down to your subordinates.

She wouldn't say anything else at this stage especially in front of students. Everybody knows Muschamp is a dead man walking and Foley wont even say something vicious about him at this point. Blake James and Shalala have already given multiple votes of confidence, which isn't a good sign. Fear not, wherrera8. If the season tanks, these are just words from President Shalala.

I'd disagree with that just a bit. If we were playing Auburn, Alabama, Miss State and Oregon this year, then yeah, "The Cloud" would have affected recruiting where we weren't getting the elite talent needed to compete. But to beat Louisville, NU and GaTech? We've got the talent. The cloud doesn't come into play. Should be 7-0.

This is why I think that any future banners should focus on names like Donna or the Board of Trustees instead of golden or dorito. THEY are the ones who need to be publicly shamed. Golden does that to himself every time he takes the sideline against a team in the top 50.

I have said that too many times over the years. Golden, like Coker and Shannon before him, will be happy to collect paychecks as long as their names are on them....I don't blame them. The last 12 years are squarely on her shoulders and the BOT.

You expected the University President, who formally announced her retirement as the end of the school year, to publicly throw the football head coach under the bus in a town hall scenario for students, really?

My question wasn't "will Golden be fired". It was are you aware or looking into our mediocre leadership of the team". I would have been much happier with an answer like this: "we are aware fans are upset but we are happy with our staff and giving them the time they need". Don't insult me with the cloud excuse when I know **** well the numbers and our recruiting wasn't that bad.
