My left field take...

“There is something with this team vibe, they don't look like they're having fun and playing free at all the last few games. Everything is labored and calculated and methodical...”

You know how that environment gets created?

When your leader is like that; the players are wound up because the Head guy in charge is wound up.

Stress much like sh*t, rolls downhill. It causes overthinking & second guessing on every level.
You made me look at this from a different perspective.

Respect.

Because the rooster sucked massive quantities of dead penguin dykks when he got here.
Exactly. The early enrollees of his first full recruiting class got on campus 9 months ago. The summer enrollees 4 months ago. The partial class he put together has been on campus at most a little under 2 years. The recruiting sins of our previous coach rear their ugly head all over the field in games with teams that have a pulse.

I dont think we can overstate the Ga Tech coaching blunder. For me, it scared the ****t outa me about Mario. If Mario would've said after that game that he decided to let Cheney get his 100 yard game then I would have dismissed it as a bad move. The fact that Mario seemed clueless to the entire concept of end-game clock management and has never done it before in his career was the truly scary part. Like scary stupid.

Then seeing how the team responded in the UNC game is what has every here so shook. I liked what the AI BOT posted in the OP and think it has merit but this is the difference between humans and machines. Humans know that you just dont fix things simply by identifying the problem on paper.

Saban had to build that resume over time. It didn’t happen overnight. He’s always been wound tighter than ****’s hat band.
Mannio is over 10 years in as a HC. He's had time and his resume is on display. Nevertheless that has very little to do with the on field product.

No doubt but saying Saban has credibility because of his resume without context is misleading.

Don’t believe that. I see players who make dumb decisions and talk too much and aren’t that good. I’m looking forward to next year when most if not all of the manny guys should be gone. I see the team getting better and building but still see the manny holding on. Like #4 coming off the bench and punching a UNC guy in the face and keeping their drive alive like wtf is that. Throw 4 off the team can’t have any time for that

Who’s quote even is that lol

Must’ve glanced over that haha. My B. How can u have fun when GT is beating u and UNC is beating u in the second half. Not worried about that.

Huge fan of players putting their hearts into every game.

I did notice though that when Matt Lee fumbled the snap he became unhinged on the sidelines to a level that was over the top.

IMO ..The lack of mental toughness in this game was the biggest red flag out of everything.

I also observed what looked like Parrish sizing up B smith and M. Williams for celebrating a late innocuous touchdown together.

The players and coaches need to put maximum effort into getting back on the same page again ASAP if that’s possible.

Those guys are elite coaches. Mario is not.

Organizations take on the personality of their boss/leader/coach. Competency is the one thing that can nullify that. Saban is wound up bc his team isn’t doing what he taught them. Mario is wound up bc he has no idea what’s going on. There’s a massive difference in the two. One is chaos and panic and the other isn’t.

Most of the highly successful coaches in CFB & the NFL have been highly demanding disciplinarians:

CFB:

Saban
Jimmy Johnson
Meyer
Butch Davis
Bear Bryant
Paterno

NFL:

Tom Landry
Chuck Knoll
Mike Ditka
Bill Belichick
Parcells

How many “Players Coaches” have had sustained success (where the wheels didn’t fall off after a couple of successful seasons)? I don’t know how Bowden was in his youth but he likely comes the closest to being a legendary coach that succeeded without being a tyrant. But, he had Mickey Andrews as a DC for all of those years & I’m sure he wasn’t exactly a “picnic.” Pete Carroll is another one that could be deemed a Players Coach but underling that external veneer there’s for sure a determination to win at all costs & control everything. In other words, his apparent demeanor is a bit of a facade.

One thing that has surprised me about Mario is that there wasn’t a better process in place for making the decision at the end of the GT game. Saban is a tremendous coach and great recruiter & evaluator of talent for sure. He also succeeds due to his organization of the program. Defined processes & tremendous organization can prevent incidents like the end of the GT game. With a clearly defined process in place that epic mistake never would have happened. It literally should have been a “no brainer” requiring almost no thought in the heat of battle that is instead dictated by a Time Remaining Chart. An Analyst should be assigned to reviewing that between every play in the final few minutes of every game. Every offensive coach should know that Chart cold. The Analyst should be given a voice & relay that info to Mario & Dawson via the headsets. In the heat of battle, mistakes will happen without pre-defined structure & process. Organization & process alone could have prevented what was a very costly mistake. It honestly surprises me that this ever happened. Expected more from Mario especially as he learned from both Saban & great coaches at Miami (and a big part of their success was Organizational Skills).

Putting the cart before the horse, aren't you? You think Nick Saban was Mr. Nice Guy doing 'aw shucks, gee wiz' bits at MSU before anyone ever called him elite? Then he somehow wins at LSU and is like, "Ok, personality shift/new sheriff in town."

UM was 20,000 leagues deep in a pure loser culture. The athletic director was a loser. Coaches were losers. Years upon years of that affects player DNA like radiation causes cancer. Chemotherapy 'aint fun. You lose weight, lose hair, and vomit your guts out. 2022, 2023, and probably 2024 are all going to be chemo years.

Your comment makes me think of the article I read last week, about players emailed photographs of poor ball handling in practice. On the surface this seems like a good use of technology. Also makes me wonder if the players feel like every move is watched and scrutinized. I know I would not like to work in a similar environment.

Of course ball handling is of paramount importance in football. I think if I were a player and I wasn’t at practice, watching film, or in a meeting I would need a mental break from football. Same as in real life, where I don’t ‘take work home with me’.
Nah man you play to win the game and you win at all costs.

Wanna be a hall of famer? You grind day and night. You obsess over the tiniest details and refuse to let anybody out work you. That’s what winners do.

If these kids need a break cause it’s too stressful for them then they ain’t got what it takes anyways. Try and tell Ed Reed it’s too stressful to work or the playmaker or Ray Lewis. Think about how Sean T would run to and from practice. Dudes would laugh in your face.

You should read my other posts. Mario’s version of being wound up is pure chaos. He doesn’t know what’s going on. Saban is wound up bc he’s detailed, expects perfection and knows exactly what’s happening.
