The ever important bye week before GT always helps. Everyone knows the defense has to be disciplined but the offense plays a big role in stopping the option too. If they can put up points early against a weak Tech D, the Tech O has to get out of their comfort zone and throw more often.

Bye weeks are very overrated. Teams that have byes in both CFB and the NFL have a losing record the next week. The impact is small and I believe the win % is 47 or 48 percent. But if anything it seems the bye week gets a team too rusted and harms them.
This probably is especially true early in the season when teams are struggling to get back into football mode even if they don't have a bye week. Plus you don't have as many injured and/or fatigued players who might need a rest either.
