My Game Predictions: Georgia Tech

The ever important bye week before GT always helps. Everyone knows the defense has to be disciplined but the offense plays a big role in stopping the option too. If they can put up points early against a weak Tech D, the Tech O has to get out of their comfort zone and throw more often.

I assume we'll start 4-0. But if we start 3-1, I'll assume the loss was at App State.

Richt went into OT vs a truly bad Ga Southern team last year. And that was at home not on the road.

Bye weeks are very overrated. Teams that have byes in both CFB and the NFL have a losing record the next week. The impact is small and I believe the win % is 47 or 48 percent. But if anything it seems the bye week gets a team too rusted and harms them.

This probably is especially true early in the season when teams are struggling to get back into football mode even if they don't have a bye week. Plus you don't have as many injured and/or fatigued players who might need a rest either.

Except when teams are given extra time to prepare for Georgia Tech" odd ball offense, they have better success against them. Check Paul Johnson's 2-5 bowl record in Atlanta.
