Post the final draft, RellySpell.
This was the final draft, whoopingcane:
Mr. Miller,
As a life long Miami Hurricane fan, to say I've been disappointed with some of the decisions this program has made over the past decade would be an understatement. Most fans are very passionate about their teams; most alumni are very passionate about their school and I am no different. I've followed the U for several decades; I have family and friends who have both attended and made generous contributions to this beloved school. I, too, have made it a goal to support the school in any way possible, although I live some 2,300 miles away. However, with the recent development in the mediocrity of this program, that will all be put to an end.
Let me underline why most fans and alumni base are utterly frustrated...it's because of the inability to bring in a coach to stablize our program. We earned the reputation of the U because we were the only University worth mentioning. We had the unique ability to balance out a top tier academic institution and field the greatest baseball and football teams in the nation. Now, all we have is past memories, and we can no longer live upon the "past" of our program.
The frustration has reached an all-time high because his [Golden] reasoning have become inexcusable. It's to the point that he is now blaming losses on playing in too many night games!! We are witnessing our program crumble while other, non-traditional football powers, thrive with good coaching. Numbers do not always tell a complete story, but when they are consistent, the barometer is generally correct.
Mr. Miller, the problem is, indeed, coaching, not the players or the process that has been often referenced. To expound on that further, let's take a look at some glaring facts that totally contradicts Al Golden's excuses.
First let's examine his excuse of "not having talent":
Since 2011, these teams have averaged the following national recruiting rankings:
Oregon-#18 (consistently a title threat every year, played in a Nat'l Champ game)
Ole Miss-# #22 (currently the No. 2 team in the nation)
VT-# 26 (played in the 2011 ACCCG)
Miss St-# 29 (currently the No. 1 team in the nation)
UVA-# 30 (1-2 against them during Al's tenure)
Mich St-# 33 (defending Big 10 champs, won Rose Bowl, ranked in top 15 consistently)
TCU-# 36 (ranked in top 20 consistently (last yr being an exception), and a BIG 12 title threat year in and year out)
Baylor-# 39 (defending Big 12 champs, ranked in top 5 consistently and played in a BCS bowl game last year)
UL-#41 (embarrassed us twice on national tv, won a BCS bowl game)
GT-#57 (currently 2nd in the ACC Coastal and played in the 2012 ACCCG)
Duke-# 64 (played in the 2013 ACCCG)
UCF-# 70 (won a BCS bowl game last year)
YET, we have averaged a national class ranking of 19th since 2011, tops in our division, yet we can't win our own division. How is that? Talent didn't seem to be an issue for Duke when the played in the ACCCG last year, or GT when they played in the ACCCG in 2012 or VT in 2011. I guess that is what good coaching can do for you, getting more out of less.
His excuse of "It's a process":
Al Golden's OVERALL record is 53-52 in 9yrs of coaching. He's 0-2 in bowl games. While his teams have pummeled lesser opponents, they tend to fold against stronger competition.
His record is as follows:
0-3 against our biggest rival FSU (with the last two meetings not being competitive)
1-16 against ranked opponents
14-13 against ACC opponents
19-18 against Power 5 opponents
4-3, currently and 1-2 in the ACC
At what point do the process begin?
Randy Shannon was fired after year 4 due to the product on the field not living up to the expectation of the culture we've created. When we examine Golden's fourth year here, could it not be argued that we have actually taken a step back during his tenure? To put that in perspective, before Golden came here in 2011, Randy's team surrender 323 yrds/game. The moment Golden implemented his "scheme", that number immediately jumped to 360 yrds/game in 2011. In 2012, we gave up a mind boggling 486 yrds/game (the worst in the history of the program). Last year, we gave up another 400+ yards/game (a two year stretch that has never been witnessed at the U). This all coming from a "defensive minded" coach who was supposed to bring stability to our program? So with that being said, what justifies him to remain after this year when Randy Shannon was not allowed to enter his 5th year with his teams having better statistics than Golden's teams?
We will no longer tolerate such an inept, anemic football product anymore. We are the U, and being the U, we have standards. We understand every program have their ups and downs, but when they are down as consistently as we have been, they make changes, and that's what we are asking for.
We are not "trending up" as Mr. Golden would like for us to believe. The fact is we are wasting valuable talent, and time, with Golden leading us. We haven't had a stable coaching regime since one BUTCH DAVIS left. We know that this is still a touchy subject, but it's time to let bygone be bygone. It's time to allow the man who TRULY led and STUCK with us during our first real cloud to come back. It's time to let the man who architected the football factory known as NFLU, a stable of talent the NCAA have never witnessed before or since, to make right that has been wronged.
A change needs to be made, Mr. Miller; once again, our problem is not talent, it's not due to "the process"; our problem is due to a coach who is in way over his head.
I understand football is not everything, but when your school is known for this sport and the media is begging for us to become relevant again, it should be a priority just like anything else...because at the end of the day, it's not about saving face and keeping an inept coach around because he's a "nice guy"; it's about business, and our business should always be about being the U and all it stands for.
Thank you,
