As a life long Miami Hurricane fan, to say I've been disappointed with some of the decisions this program has made over the past decade would be an understatement. Most fans are very passionate about their teams; most alumnis are very passionate about their school and I am no different. I've followed the U for several decades; I have family and friends who have both attended and made generous contributions to this beloved school. I, while I did not have the pleasure nor opportunity to attend the University of Miami, have made it a goal to support the school in any way possible although I live some 2,300 miles away. However, with the recent development in the mediocrity of this program, that will all be put to an end.
Let me underline why most fans and the alumni base is utterly frustrated...it's because of the inability to bring in a coach to stablize our program. We earned the reputation of the U because we were the only University worth talking about. We had the unique ability to balance out a top notch academic institution and field the greatest baseball and football teams in the nation. Now all we have is past memories, and we can no longer live upon the past memories of our program. We have sat on the monies of boosters and alumni, who willingly gave to support the University of Miami, and in return for their contributions, you have given them mediocrity, and by your public support of Al Golden, you have in essence told them to 'deal with it'. For that I say shame on you. Shame on you to continue to allow our prestigious football program to slide by the wasteside, where schools are now looking forward to playing us when once upon a time we were once feared. While we respect the progress and trend we have set in the academic world, the fact is our athletics, in particular our biggest revenue generator, our football program, can no longer be ignored.
The frustrations have reached an all-time high among our fans and for good reasons; we have been fed up with the excuse after excuse with this current head coach, and the excuses are no longer justified. In fact, the lies that have been spewed and accepted by our athletic director and board of trustees have many of us losing faith in our admin. Al Golden has been a thief from the moment he got here; unfortunately, all of his lies are now catching up to him. We don't mind that his lies are catching up to him, what we do mind, and will no longer accept is our administration perpetuating his lies by public/private support.
Sometimes numbers do not tell the whole story, but when the numbers are consistent, then that is a good indication that the barometer is correct. I want to go step by step of the lies (or excuses if that is less offensive) that Mr. Golden have stated as to why we have been a mediocre football program under his watch:
In 2011-he stated that "it's a process, we're building something here....we don't have the talent quite yet to be where we want to be."
Rebuttle: While, I agree that it was a process coming from the previous coaching regime, the fact that he stated he didn't have talent was asinine. Golden inherited a team that had an avg. class ranking of 12th in the nation to this point. Yes, there was the Shapiro Scandal (which I will get to shortly), but the fact is, this team was far more talented than the UNC team that went to the ACC Championship game that year based upon rankings alone. However, it was his first year and the ship was a little off sail so we could live with the record of 6-6. What was interesting, however, is that the 2010 team, before Golden took helm, surrendered 323.3 yrds per game with "less discipline" under Shannon's watch; when Golden came on board, he was supposed to instill that discipline, yet the 2011 team surrendered took a major step back by allowing 360 yrds/game, a trend that would continue and should've been a warning sign.
Let's move on to the following year
In 2012-he stated we were young, that we had this cloud hanging over us."
Rebuttle-Interesting that he stated we had this cloud over us when he picked up the No. 9 overall recruiting class in 2012 during the time of the whole investigation. The "negative recruiting" that he has stated time and time again as to why we have not received the "top" talent in our backyard had no barren in 2012. Furthermore, we were not "too young" in 2012. Our team was mostly composed of Juniors with our highly touted true freshmans playing spot duty. Under year two of Al Golden and company, we gave up a mind boggling 486.4 yrds/game. How does a team regress that far in two years under one coach who was hired to bring stability to our program? Never in UM history had a defense been that putrid, yet we gave him another pass. "It's year two", we said. However, keep in mind UM was not the only school faced with a cloud. USC, too, had a cloud, a very dark and ominous cloud, yet they fielded a competitive team even with uncertainty in their coaching regime.
Moving on
2013-he stated "the talent is not there, quite yet".
Rebuttle-OK, here's where the problem lies. First off, how dare you belittle these top notch kids, throwing them under the bus! What coach does that? Second, that is a bold face lie! Up to this point, not including the 2010 class that was still on the roster, Miami avg class ranking was 21st overall. Playing in the Coastal Division our opponents class rankings (2011-2013) were as follow: VT-26th, UVA-27th, UNC-34th, PITT-47th, GT-61st, and DUKE-66th. As you notice, our class ranking has been far superior in our division up to this point, yet Al Golden stated that talent was an issue. It wasn't an issue for Duke as they played in the ACCCG last year, for GT in 2013, VT in 2012, or UNC in 2011...I guess that's what good coaching does for you, getting more from less. To top that, we once again yielded an astounishing 426.4 yrds/game against a porous schedule to say the least.
2014-Al stated that he "was with the U"; yet, he fielded other offers to go back to his alumni, PSU. To say that he "stuck" with us during the cloud is completely inaccurate; Al was not a highly sought after coach during the investigation, so he had no choice but to stay. However, his eyes were roving about and the moment he received offers to leave, he jumped at it, underhandidly to say the least. This year has been full of excuses, from stating the reason why we loss to UL was because he held back the game plan for a True Freshman QB, to the reason why we lost to Nebraska was "our" inability to get off the field on 3rd downs, to most recently we've played too many night games and we tired out against GT. Yet, when things have gone right, like last week, he stated that the reason why we were, once again porous in converting 3rd downs was because we were sustaining drives....do you see the hypocrisy with him? Do you see why we are so fed up with his lip service? Nothing is making sense, and shame on you for allowing this to continue to happen.
The problem is coaching, not the players, not the process, its coaching. To expound on that further, let's take a look at some other glaring facts that totally contradicts Al Golden's excuses.
First let's examine "talent":

Miss St-# 29 (currently the No. 1 team in the nation)
Ole Miss-# #22 (currently the No. 2 team in the nation)
VT-# 26 (played in the 2012 ACCCG)
GT-#57 (currently 2nd in the ACC Coastal and played in the 2013 ACCCG)
Duke-# 64 (played in the 2014 ACCCG)
Baylor-# 39 (defending Big 12 champs, ranked in top 5 consistently and played in BCS bowl game)
Mich St-# 33 (defending Big 10 champs, won Rose Bowl, ranked in top 15 consistently)
Oregon-#18 (consistently a title threat every year, played in a Nat'l Champ game)
UL-#41 (embarrassed us twice on national tv, won a BCS bowl game)
TCU-# 36 (ranked in top 20 consistently (last yr being an exception), and a BIG 12 title threat year in and year out)
UCF-# 70 (won a BCS bowl game last year)
UVA-# 30 (1-2 against them during Al's tenure)
YET, we have averaged a national class ranking of 19th since 2011, and we can't even win our own division. How is that? That's not called talent, that's called coaching.

Al Golden's OVERALL record is 53-52 in 9yrs of coaching. He's 0-2 in bowl games. While his teams pummel lesser opponents, they fold against stronger competition.
0-3 against our biggest rival (FSU and have looked flat the last two years)
1-16 against ranked opponents
14-13 against ACC opponents
19-18 against Power 5 opponents
4-3 now with "his guys" and 1-2 in the ACC
At what point do the process begin?
"We have played too many night games."
I don't want to give any credence to this excuse, since EVERY big time program wants to be on the national spot light playing prime time football. This excuse, alone, should cause a huge red flag for the admin dept.
The proof has been laid out before us; we will not tolerate this sort of mediocrity...excuse me, mediocrity is being too generous; we will no longer tolerate such an inept, anemic football product anymore. While the flying banner was a bit much, it speaks volumes as to our frustration. The game attendance should show you how angry and disappointed we are with this current coaching regime. We are the U, and being the U we have standards. We understand every program have their ups and downs, but when they are down consistently, they make changes, and that's what we are asking for.
We are not "trending up" as Mr. Golden would like for you and I to believe. The fact is we are wasting valuable talent. Our players are not being developed. It's no coincidence that as soon as our players leave for the NFL, they become exponentially better. We haven't had a stable coaching regime since, one BUTCH DAVIS left. We know that is a touchy subject, but it's time to let bygones be bygones. It's time to allow the man who TRULY led and STUCK with us during our first real cloud to build a football factory one the NCAA landscape have never witness before, to come back home. If you don't care about the fans, and the alumni, can you atleast do it for the kids that have gave us their all, only to be deceived and lied to just the same? They deserve an opportunity to play in a big bowl game with a legitimate shot to win. They deserve a shot to start their own legacy here. Our problem is not talent, it's not due to "the process", our problem is due to a coach who is in way over his head.
It's better to take a step back and blow this coaching regime up in order to take 3 steps forward and admit our mistake, than to stay neutral and allow the landscape of football to pass us by and stay in the irrelevant stage. Football is not everything, but when your school is known for this sport and the media is begging for us to become relevant again, it should be priority just like anything else...because at the end of the day, it's not about saving face, it's about business and our business should always be about being the U.
