My Defensive Take

First of all, great performance by the team for the first game, under new leadership and schemes. They certainly played faster and better. Here are 3 things IMO we need to cleanup defensively before facing quality opponents:

1. Better containment on the edge. Can't let teams block you on or get around the edge of your defense. Several times guys crashing in hard and not keep rush lane integrity.

2. Backside containment! Can't go flying in flat on a fake dive or opposite direction play. Must set the edge before coming down. Force the play to go wide and maintain a pursuit angle that prevents them from turning up field. Play fast, but SMART.

3. Account for all eligible receivers and know who your man is! In particular the TE! Too many times the TE was wide open or uncovered. That can't happen. Defensive alignment is predicated on where the TE lines up. LB or Safety have to account for and get on the TE immediately.

First game in new scheme. Some things to clean up. Better opponent next week, but with Willis returning we should dominate the LOS. We know FAU will try to run the ball to slow down the rush.
