My 6 Takeaways From Today's Game

1) Pulling Rosier and putting in Shirreffs in the 4th quarter was a terrible coaching move. I get that Rosier's accuracy was awful (it's been bad all year and we know what he is by now), but you have to keep rolling with him at that point in the game. Absolutely let all the air out of the balloon. If this call was made in the 1st/2nd/beginning of the 3rd quarter, I'm ok with it. Flat out bad decision by CMR, especially on the timing of it.

then why was the sideline jumping up and down?

Agree that pulling Rosier was a mistake. One thing the kid has done this year was pull us out of the fire late in games. We took that off the table when we pulled him out. Huge mistake. Very unlike Richt who has emphasized patience.

I would normally agree that was a bad decision to pull Malik at that point but something was going on with him yesterday. Yes, he’s been very inconsistent all year but yesterday he was downright dreadful and he didn’t have any fire or pep in his step. He got a little Kaaya syndrome and felt sorry for himself.

There was a timeout we had to call to avoid a delay of game and that is when I think Richt lost his patience and we all know Richt has the patience of a Saint. When he called that TO he violently did the come here to Rosier to come to the sideline bc he was just lolly gagging over like Jay Cutler. I think that was the turning point and really ****ed Richt off. I think he can deal with inconsistent but lack of want to and body language did Malik in IMO.

Just thought of a 7th thing I forgot to mention:

7) Since the running game wasn't working today and with Rosier's struggles, why not try the Wildcat look with DJ Dallas in the second half? It worked beautifully against ND and I doubt Pitt would have been prepared for it. It couldn't have gone any worse than any of our other rushing attempts in the game. Would have been worth a shot with our struggling offense.

8) The defense blitzed much more in past games, why so little against Pitt? One possible reason, teams later in the Canes schedule
learned get rid of the pass quickly.

I said this exact thing late third quarter.

All of this.

because we are hiding the playbook until Clemson, haven't you been reading the post

Honestly can't believe all the doom and gloom posts on this board considering we are playing for the ACC title next weekend. We are in the final stretch of an amazing season, that can become even more amazing depending on how the next week plays out. Maybe we should start referring to this as Shannon-Golden syndrome? Everyone take a deep breath and prepare to cheer your lungs out next Saturday night against Clemson. We win and we are in the Playoff, period.

6 takeaways from today:

1) Pulling Rosier and putting in Shirreffs in the 4th quarter was a terrible coaching move. I get that Rosier's accuracy was awful (it's been bad all year and we know what he is by now), but you have to keep rolling with him at that point in the game. Absolutely let all the air out of the balloon. If this call was made in the 1st/2nd/beginning of the 3rd quarter, I'm ok with it. Flat out bad decision by CMR, especially on the timing of it.

2) OL played poorly. This isn't all on Rosier. The OL couldn't stop a 4 man rush from getting pressure or create clean lanes for Rosier to throw (lots of batted balls). OL also did a poor job run blocking. This is something I'm sure we'll see more in detail in HurricaneVision 's post.

3) With the accuracy issues that I've seen from Rosier all season, I'd be shocked if he didn't get beat out for the starting QB job next season.

4) Special teams have been below average to bad all year and today it really reared it's ugly head. Feagles shanked punts (has happened before this game too), holding penalties on seemingly every punt and kickoff that we attempt to return (all season), poor blocking on kickoff returns leading to poor field position (again, all season and usually inside the 20), Berrios fair-catching punts that he has room to return (ditto). Really the only 2 positives on special teams is Berrios' rock solid hands catching punts and Badgley's FG kicking. This is something that definitely needs to be addressed and a spot where I could see a staff change potentially taking place this offseason.

5) Holy cow did the refs miss a ton of holding calls against Pitt today! There was one play where Chad got tackled coming around the edge and my jaw just about hit the floor when I didn't see a flag. Worst part is these non-calls have been a theme the past couple games at least and they have missed absolutely egregious holds! Not blaming the refs for the loss, but they sure weren't going to give us any help.

6) We beat Clemson in the ACC title game and we are in the playoffs! This Pitt loss won't affect our playoff chances, period. Take care of business against Clemson and we are in.

Side note - Clemson's only loss in last year's title season was to Pitt. Good omen? Foreshadowing? Hope so!

The holding calls on Miami's stellar defense have been going on all season, and the NEFARIOUS ACC referee crews have ' looked the other way. ' And I expect that to happen next week against mighty Clemson. Because anyone with a clear ego KNOWS the ACC wants Clemson in the playoffs. NOT MIAMI!! Ouch.
