The OL play and the penalties were both significant factors in us losing the game, but while not okay, I wouldn’t say those things were unexpected in any way.
However, I thought a few things were unexpectedly disappointing and also limited our ability to win:
Lack of impact plays by the DL in the passing game - while not bad, I thought our DL would destroy their OL like they did to ours and they obviously didn’t happen.
Not only lack of impact plays but negative plays from JT - he’s our most talented and explosive offensive player and not only did he not make any impact plays, his muff on the return and drop in the end zone were significant plays in the game.
Missed FG - can’t have a missed Fg in this game at that point. Really impacted our ability to try and win the game late.
Offensive play calling - the OL obviously was a major factor in how the game was called, but not in the right way. Still didn’t see enough done to get the ball out of Jarrens hands quickly, still didn’t get the ball to JT enough, and the motion seemed to be less utilized as the game went on.
Substitution patterns - not sure how Martell got so much burn as a WR over the other guys. Don’t know how Hill and Rousseau didn’t get more play at DE.
It was going to be hard to win with our OL and the penalties, but we really made it much harder by failing to take advantage of strengths I thought we’d have or minimize the weaknesses we thought we’d have.
