Most under-appreciated hurricane ever?

-Allen Hurns= great college receiver and good pro wasted by AG

Allen Hurns UM Profile

Set single-season school record with 1,162 receiving yards, breaking mark previously held by Leonard Hankerson

Golden was terrible in A TON of areas but saying he "ruined" Allen Hurns (Broke school record receiving yars Sr. year) cheapens your argument.

Couldn't agree more. There's plenty of crap to blame on Golden but the NFL's inability to see his talent, thus not drafting him isn't Golden's fault. He was featured quite a bit his junior and senior seasons. You don't break the single season yardage record by not being used correctly. Now, NFL scouts saw a guy with mediocre size and speed but a knack for making tough catches and a lot of college production and chose to pass on him in the draft. That wasn't on Golden, that was on all 32 NFL teams.

Part of the NFL's failure to see his talent is that Golden did such a bad job coaching them.

But he didn't do a bad job coaching him. Hurns was very good at UM. Once again, you don't break records by sucking or being improperly used.

Lester Williams.

Lost in the sea of all of Miami's all-time great defensive tackles, Williams was one of those initial South Florida super recruits Schnelly landed. All-time great 'Cane at his position and never mentioned with the Sapp, Cortez, Russell, and Jerome group, but should. If Jerome is the Godfather, Lester was his pappy.

Tony Cristiani.

Best defensive player during those Chuck Foreman years. Might be the P4P fastest/strongest player Miami has ever had on the lines. Would be Miami's sack leader, still, if they recorded these type of things back then.

Look.. Dennis Erickson is so under appreciated that he could not take a bus back to under appreciated. Don't know why. The troubles? All Hurricane coaches had and will have troubles. It just is what it is. We win it all in 89. His first year. We had the best team in the country in 90. (I think we finished #3 behind the split champs.) Ask Texas how good we were. We won it all again in 91. We got whooped by Bama in 92 for a back to back, but went undefeated after an undefeated 91 season. Should have could have won it in 94. Everyone hates the guy and no body talks about how good of a coach and how perfect of a fit he was for us at the time.

Player wise I gotta go with Brock Berlin. He did a lot of good. He was very good. Even played in the NFL. I think the fact that he did not win a National title hurts his legacy to some unintelligent fans. Most of those fans who criticize never even saw him play i bet.

Frank Costa. I know, many thought he was a terrible QB but he had to operate in a version of Erickson's one back offense that was crazy. He and Toretta got their heads handed to them more than any QB I have seen. He had decent receivers but that was it. He had to deal with the Collins race crap also. My runner up would be Buck Ortega.

Also Jim Burt, Willis Peguese, Brett Perriman, Willie Smith, Charles Pharms, James Lewis(Pick Six in n the Rose Bowl demolition).

Also Bill Hawkins and Kevin Patrick! You go on forever Derwin Jones, Tolbert Bain. Stephen McGuire had a horrible Sugar Bowl (I was there went all the way up for that train wreck) but before that he had epic games vs Semenholes and The Catholic Girl School! Leonard Conley and then Wesley Carroll.

Warren Williams.

Jeff Feagles.

Warren, one of best teammates... great guy, great Parents ( RIP) still live close to him...

Nice. Thanks for sharing.

If memory serves, Warren Williams was buried on the depth chart for 3 out of his 4 years at UM and only got significant playing time during his senior year. Then he went on to get drafted and played a number of years with the Steelers, yes?

Yes there were studs infront of him, he still played quite a bit..

steelers than Indy...

Great guy

Tremain Mack - absolutely unbelievable talent! Probably the most talented kick and punt blocker ever to play at Miami. I'll never forget that blocked punt against West Virginia when our offense couldn't sniff the endzone or get out of their own way. Also an excellent return man and db.

Nate Webster - Dan Morgan stole the spotlight at LB during his tenure (and deservedly) but Nate was a tackling machine too.

Yatil Green - Pass catching machine with tremendous speed. Always a threat to house one deep. NFL career destroyed before it started by knee injuries.

Kenny Holmes / Kenard Lang - outstanding DE combo that always seemed to get into the backfield quickly.

Bubba Franks - excellent pass catcher and run blocker. Not particularly fast or flashy but always had sure hands and could move the sticks.

Maurice Sikes - solid in pass coverage and could deliver a big hit. Had a memorable pick-6 against the Gators' Rex Grossman in Gainesville to seal the win. Also one of my personal favorites because he gave one of his gloves after the West Virginia game in 2001 when I was a kid.
