Those calls are always iffy. They are either both picks, or they aren't. But, there is no consistency by the officiating crews at all. It's not just against UM. It's everywhere.

It's the exact same play out of highly similar formations. Both ran by ACC teams.

-Clemson has their TE flanking the right side, instead of the left like Miami.
-Clemson begins the play motioning the RB out of the slot, and into the backfield (not in the gif)
-Deshaun rolls out, while Kaaya stays in the pocket.
-Coley is lined up on the line, with Njoku off the line. Clemson has both WR's off the line.

Both outside WR's run the same pick block pattern. If anything, the Clemson pick block is worse because the WR manages to push the CB deep enough to where the Bama safety has to take a longer route to get to the flats. Coley pushes his man towards the inside, making it easier (in comparison) for the Pitt safety to reach the flats.

Coley also ran the play as if the DB was in his way and he tried to shoulder bump him on his way to the inside
The Clemson WR **** near chop blocks the Bama DB.

Same play, but everything on the Clemson side is even more blatant and they still didn't get the call.

I will also add, that you expect them to call a penalty for some blatant sht like that in the **** National Championship Game, and when the game is on the line at that. But nah, they not Miami so the refs let it slide so they could go home and drink beer faster.

If you want to watch some interesting refereeing watch the last 8 minutes of the Nebraska game 2 years ago. Big 10 officials at our home game. They literally changed that game. We got save by them foolishly throwing derp and the mighty Corn Elder saving the day in OT.

Not so fast, this has been addressed previously:

Here is the meat of it.

ACC Refs do what Swofford tells them to do...

No doubt we get jobbed by the refs on the regular, but I think it's more of a bias thing than being told to do it. I doubt you can keep something like the league commissioner telling refs to make more calls against a specific team a secret for long. People just think Miami is dirty which leads to other negative assumptions.

I agree with this. Didn't ND lose to FSU a few years ago on a pick call?

C'mon, man. It's the National Championship game. The refs are gonna let 'em play. You think they'd risk deciding the NC game on a b.s. call? Never gonna happen.

Never.

Well, maybe just once.

Was it the same ref responsible for making the call? Was it the same crew? Do you not understand that two very similar plays can happen and the refs can call it differently? It happens all the time in all sports - basketball, football, soccer, hockey, etc. It's beyond silly to use one play to suggest that the every collegiate referee has it out against miami. If that was the fact, that historic play against Duke would have been called back. Refs make mistakes, some more than others. LMAO at you spending your time, which must not be precious to upload those gifs to fail at trying to prove a point.

Well the refs made a call to decide the NC game vs Ohio State in 2002.

This. It wasn't the same ref that made the 2 calls.

both of these plays are iffy plays because some times it is called, sometimes it isn't. If you really want to get into the nitty gritty, look at calls from the same game. Ex. Holds that were and werent called against both teams like the FSU and UNC game. Look at borderline replay reviews. The targeting v. FSU, the TD by UNC when it was clear the WR never had control of the ball. Look at the amount of PI calls for and against UM since they joined the ACC. Back in the Shannon years there was a stretch of 5 straight weeks where UM lost a TD due to a bad call by the officials. The ACC's response was to privately send a rep to speak to the team where he basically told us that they were sorry the calls happened but bad calls happen and deal with it. The evidence of bias is there, but the reality is that nobody cares about Miami getting the short end of the stick from officials. Our bad boy rep prevents anyone from ever feeling bad for us. We lost a National Championship on one of the worst calls of all time to a team whose star player was declared ineligible a few months later and should never have been allowed to play for OSU anyway and nobody cares. These are the things you have to deal with when you embrace the image of being the bad guy

Exactly the same play and ND was penalized costing them the game...I consider it payback for the Cleveland Gary bogus call that cost us the game...At least the Refs came out and said they blew it, but it cost us another national champ game.
