Moorhead to Akron

I get what you’re trying to say but running the ball more would not have stopped Syracuse from scoring every possession. Slowing the game down and lowering the overall number of possessions only works if you get stops on defense. Otherwise you still lose, just in a lower scoring game.
But we did get two miracle stops and a 21-3 advantage. You didn't have to stop them from scoring, if you limited their possessions and score half as much as they did. Not a big ask with the #1 offense in the country. We engineered that loss.

The offense was #1 in the country because of the passing game though. You can’t just assume that same offensive efficiency if they decided to totally change what they had done all season and just milk the clock with the running game. We tried to do it in the bowl game and eventually we were forced to throw.

The defense surrendered 5 touchdowns and then at the end of the game with an opportunity to try to get the offense one last possession, couldn’t get a stop and let Syracuse bleed the clock. No amount of running the ball was going to save them from losing the game for us.

If Miami had been successfully TUFF N FYZICAL and just ground and pound (high stakes yes), then Syracuse would have had fewer possessions to score with time-wise.

Whelp, they just scored another TD on 40yd pass.

Largely because Ward had fill autonomy to change the play. He would throw it 75 times if he could. We could run the ball but let Ward run the show.

Is it better to lose 17-13 or 42-38?

Is that the hitman in your profile pic?
It is indeed. My favorite fighter ever…not the greatest, but one of the most unique and dangerous to ever do it. Prime, 1984-85, 154 Tommy was deadly. Even after he got eaten up by Marvin, he was still a problem. I love Detroit fighters like I do Chicago guards in basketball and South Florida Wide Receivers. Those Kronk boys were a dynasty back in the day.

I have no doubt they gave Cam the keys but I don’t think it was a matter of Dawson calling run plays and Cam just changing the play to a pass at the line. I mean we threw it 36 times against Syracuse and ran it 31 times. Not exactly some crazy imbalance. We also had the time of possession advantage.

There’s no way I’m ever going to be convinced that “not running it enough” is why they lost a game where the defense gave up 35 points and 480 yards.

You would be wrong...Cam absolutely changed run plays to pass.... more than 50% of the time

Let’s pretend you’re not just making up numbers. We ran the ball 31 times against Syracuse. Do you honestly believe Dawson called like 50 run plays? Like he was just sitting there saying “I’m purposely taking the ball out of the best player in country’s hands? Everything that has worked for our best offense in the country is going out the window today because I think we need to run the ball 50 times.”
