Montrell Johnson Hurt

Are they a better team if he plays?

He’s their best back, full stop. So yes, of course they are. But he’s not Barry Sanders as it is, when he’s 100%. So at 80%? 85%? I’m just fine taking my chances facing a back who is nowhere near game shape and is thinking about his knee every snap.

Defense better not make Treyaun Webb or Jadan Baugh look like the next Emmitt Smith...

Dude wasn’t a game breaker when he was healthy. But I don’t know who else UF has at running back. This is huge for them in that if they can’t run the ball against us, they have almost no shot. Anything that can make them more one dimensional is good.

This makes it easier, but our front 7 is what will determine their success on the ground. Didn't expect them to have much to begin with.

As long as their backup isn't a speedster, idc if Montrell plays through his injury or not tbh. You know he's not going to be 110% on game day, so whether we play him at less than 100% or a backup makes little difference to me. I'd just prefer whoever is the guy to not be some major big playmaker like a Toney they had.

Yikes, and also how is a knew surgery considered week to week. Normally clean up procedures around 4 to 6 weeks
All of this is jit to jit, situation to situation. Chit I played on a broken wrist without a cast (25y later it's still jacked up, but...) just that roller derby brace thing

Toney was the worst tackling I have ever seen in my life.

that baugh kid looks like a hit recruit for them
Yeah I heard from some of my UF buddies that he had a good camp. The way he runs somewhat reminds me of Hellcat and he had similar stats of like averaging 14 ypc or something in HS.

I think something that is being overlooked is the pass protection aspect of this. If our offense is how we think it is then the gator will need to pass. Their OL is/was already a question mark going against probably our strongest position unit. Montrell Johnson is a senior who has played a lot of ball same as Mertz. Even Dawson commented how Martinez stood out because he is such an experienced player and how he is able to move in pass protection and pick up guys shows he has played a lot of ball.

If he does not play or is not 100% you have two TF in Baugh and KD Daniels, a Soph in Treyaun Webb a RS Senior named Cam Carroll who was at Tulane from 2019-2022 and 2023 tore his ACL after he transferred to the gator, RS-FR anthony Rubio (walkon) and Ja'Kobi Jackson a RS JR who played three years at Coahoma CC transferred to the gator last year and didnt play.

This is exactly where I was going to go with this.

Montrell Johnson is the only trusted guy in pass pro. The rest are 1st and 2nd year guys.

Assuming we can stop the run or slow it down fairly easily, Guidry can and should have a field day with that. Basically takes away the chance to even feel comfortable trying to take shots down field and open up the deep passing game. Kiko, Wes, and DB blitzes will make it extremely tough on them.
