2027 Montana Malotu’upule Toilolo DT from Santa Ana, CA (Mater Dei)

He has been a Notre Dame lean for some time now. At this point, it would be a major upset if the 6-5, 225-pound defensive end didn’t end up with the Irish…..

I feel the same about Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei defensive tackle Montana Toilolo. He visited Notre Dame for a weekend trip recently, and after that visit, the Irish became the unquestioned leader for the California native. It feels like a matter of when, not if, the 6-3, 260-pounder ends up with the Irish.

Having Mesidor on campus during Toilolo’s visit was a lucky step as well. “Akheem was actually there when I went so it was great to see him, I got to meet him,” Toilolo said.
“Coach (Jason Taylor) was putting up film and we were watching their pass rush, how great of players they were and just seeing them get into the drills on the field and then into the game, there were a lot of good teaching points from coach JT. “Just seeing Akheem over there, he’s teaching the young guys and they’re learning from him on how they can perfect his craft. Coach JT had a lot of great drills for the d-ends.”

Miami remains one of the five frontrunners for the Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei with Notre Dame, UCLA, Washington and Oregon among others standing out.

Seeing Taylor, who played for the Miami Dolphins for a decade and in the NFL from 1997-2011 and was named the league’s defensive player of the year, as a coach was also special.
Thinking Taylor could be Toilolo’s position coach is a major draw to the Hurricanes.
“He’s high intensity, he’s on them just being a great coach so I can see how Rueben Bain and Akheem were being developed by coach JT,” Toilolo said. “I could see how he was a great coach to Rueben and Akheem and now they are developed from him.
