This won't be an outbidding situation. It will be a player fund allocation situation. I think Indiana will have to pay a great deal overall to compete with perennial football powers despite their NC win. I can also see him being a big piece of their fund allocation pie.

If we want this kid, we’ll have to pay a great deal ourselves lol. For the majority of these players, they will always take the best package. Indiana has one of the strongest collectives in the country, so as long as they can keep Cignetti, they’ll be here to stay.

Also, this narrative that kids take less money to go to a “perennial power” like OSU, Georgia, or Bama is a complete myth.

Not saying this for all cases; however, i absolutely know a player who took less 3x less to go OSU rather than go to the two other schools pursuing him in the portal for the 2024 season.

If it were really as simple as highest bidder wins then A&M would’ve had more than one five star last cycle.

I’m sure there are scenarios where some 3-stars might go to a premier school for cheaper than a middle of the road group of 4 school. I always think of the Cantwell situation. Georgia likes to say they don’t overpay for players and their deal wasn’t at the level of Miamis. It’s such a bs narrative. Let’s not sit here and pretend Georgias offer wasn’t just as high as ours

Also, if A&M wanted to, they definitely could have gotten a bunch for 5 starts. However, that means you can’t spend as much on retention and the portal. Same thing applies to us. We could have have pulled a USC and landed a bunch of 5 stars in the 2026 class. However, we choose to spread our money out to all areas. People might not realize this, but we paid a lot of money to keep guys like Bain & Fletcher around. We spent a lot of money on Beck, a lot of money on that secondary. I could keep going down the list. Our staff does an amazing job allocating money to the right places.

Player I’m referring to was a starter who portaled out of a premier school. One of the schools that offered him 3x more than OSU was A&M.

A&M isn’t pulling in top 3 portal classes. It does cost a pretty penny to retain and reup on the roster; especially for the good guys. There isn’t an on/off switch A&M can just turn-on to get 7 five stars next year. I’m sure Keisean Henderson is getting 7 figures to go to Houston. I’m also sure that at least a dozen teams could’ve paid him much, much more.

I don’t believe we lost Blake Stewart because of a higher offer by UGA, or that he & Stancil decommited from Clemson because they got a flurry of new deals. Us and USC both wanted Floyd Boucard and Hayden Lowe. At one point they had both of them. I don’t believe USC didn’t retain Lowe because of an unwillingness to spend; in the end, we each got the dlineman from each other’s backyard.

I highly doubt all of the guys are doing what the player I’m talking about did where the money difference was multiples. However, I’m sure plenty of players/families are fine with getting 250k versus 325k from another school that’s on shakier ground.

We saw an Alex Collins situation with Legend Bey where his mom and older brother wouldn’t let him flip to OSU, from Tennessee, so the kid had to wait until he turned 18 lol.
