“Overall when you look at our team, not having a very deep team presents challenges,” Gattis said. “Fatigue, injuries, we’ve had our fair share of injuries on the offensive side, are not a very deep unit. But every man has to understand the next man has to step up and be prepared.
“You’re going to see new faces, new roles being increased for players. Just prepare the next man and have them ready for their number to be called. Five games into the season physicality is going to happen. That’s what happens with good teams, play stronger as the season goes on. What we’re going through is no different than what any other team is going through, we’re just missing some pieces.”
Gattis says in the end he wants an offense that plays “clean.”
“Playing in rhythm, that’s important,” he said. “I don’t think first downs have been an issue for us, but we have to get more. Breaking tackles in space, beat defenders deep. That’s the focus for us isn’t tempo because we’re averaging a high volume, it’s just getting more and push the envelope further and further.”
