Mods,

I love y’all and I love this site. But y’all have to stop closing threads when convos get uncomfortable. Some things that is said can be wild but if the convo is civil, let a discussion be had. We can all learn from the convos that are had. And many us need to learn anyway.

Other than that, Go Canes! I appreciate everything y’all do. There’s no other fan site, forum, or just overall passionate people like the individuals here on Canes Insight.

Threads get closed because they become too much work to moderate. That happens when people try a topic that's inherently problematic, start painting large groups of people with a broad brush, or when people start going at each other. The number of posts that get deleted clearly shows that we try to keep threads open on reasonable subjects, that's why we end up with 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 threads. It's less work to lock and reset than read through and delete posts. Mods are volunteers, that takes time.

Want to keep threads open?
  • Don't try to discuss a subject that's likely to **** a large group of people off.
  • Don't suggest the entire other party is evil or attribute the actions of one nut job to an entire group.
  • Focus on the topic, not the poster.
  • Follow the wisdom of Bill and Ted.

I know this was posted sincerely and I thank you for your civility and respectful tone. @JD08 hit most of the functional points on this subject in his response above.

I'll add that there are just certain topics where a message board alone isn't a useful or practical forum for civil discussion to be had. It's a limited platform that promotes anonymity and tangential conversations. Topics as complicated and deeply personal as race relations, for instance, don't do well here. Especially when it gets anecdotal and posters draw on their own personal experiences (and get, somewhat understandably, defensive when those personal experiences are called into question).

And based on our collective mod/maude/admin experiences, we do sometimes have a quick trigger finger and lock those types of threads when we see signs that the proverbial **** is about to hit the fan. It's basically Battered Maude Syndrome. Sometimes we know the hit is coming before the fist is even raised. And in those instances we act (in our collective opinion) for the betterment of the board as a whole.

Good post. I don’t really care about threads being locked or deleted in the off-topic section, because usually if that happens, it’s all gone to shlt.

I think the trigger finger should be very itchy on the other football threads, though.

I hate seeing anything about politics, even the littlest things, when it comes to football or recruiting discussions. It’s just not necessary and the vast majority of people that come here don’t want that.

I’m stingy with my compliments, but you guys do a really good job in keeping the site out of trouble. This could turn into a real free-for-all if it wasn’t for y’all.

Can we all at least agree that the reason we are all so touchy is because of the Canes 20 year run of ineptitude?

It's definitely a big part of the reason. A little more winning and a little less looking absolutely abysmal, and I suspect there's be more kumbaya drum circles and love fests on these CIS streets.

Thank you, sir. I could be wrong, but I truly believe most of us are of the same mind on this issue. We want to keep the non-football stuff off the main boards.

So we try to allow for a good deal of leeway for tangential conversations (kept civil) in the Off-Topic board, but much less leeway for those prickly or "impolite" topics of conversation that aren't football-related on the main boards. That's not to say we don't generally believe there's value to those topics of conversation, we just think it's wise to keep the main boards more on topic and avoid unnecessary conflict there. As it is, we get more than enough conflict on the main boards discussing issues that are football related.

I'm biased, but I think this group of mods/maudes/admins is the best group of mods/maudes/admins that zero money can buy.

Nah this happened on grassy before the Canes really imploded. Years before this site was created. Kind of the irony to me that this site was a "safe" space for opinions and now moderated much like old sites. Ridiculous that anybody gets offended over posts. People mock my beliefs every day, heck I got spit on nearly every other day in Israel, kids in Africa literally think if you aren't dark black you are the devil and yet some get offended by messages, words. LOL. Tighten it up.

If your Catholic and you live in Israel you have to use a different name to work under or you’ll be treated like you said .
Without getting into beliefs or any affiliations have you heard of this being true?

I heard this from people who went on those tours of the Holy Land speaking with locals.

You are proselytizing at your own risk, that is well known. They aren't very open to anything Christ related. To be expected. If you open air preach you can 100% expect some form of assault. I can't speak other than people sharing their Christian faith. That is the only instances I have witnessed other than ******/Muslim fights/arguments.

Just to clarify so this doesn't get twisted. Much like the USA, if you aren't sharing your faith, people in Israel have no issue with Christians. When you share that faith, just like here, it becomes a problem.

I imagine living that "CIS maude life" is a very similar experience to zoo keepers charged with tending to this👇👇👇👇👇👇
