How are we here as a civilized society? A vast majority of Americans don’t care who smokes recreationally and this man goes to jail for LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE over a victimless “crime”. The same crime people are making millions for in this same country.

Yes, the man has a history of nonviolent crimes, and yes the burglary was considered to be nonviolent before. Regardless, this is extremely excessive and is not in the interest of Justice.

This is another sign that people are tired of career criminals. They see crime going up around the country and instantly every repeat offender is a target.

We seriously need to ask why we continue to have repeat offenders in the first place. Things like how much stigma is associated with a police record and are our current policies actually discouraging more crime like they're supposed to should be at the top of the list.

But this case is just ridiculous. There is no good being served here at all.

If you think that is comparable to 1.54oz of weed, you are truly out of touch with reality.

Gonna cost Mississippi roughly 1.8 million dollars to house this guy for the rest of his life over a 200 dollar bag of weed....

You not wrong. Whoever you want to blame, there is no justification for this. This man’s life shouldn’t be spent in a cage because he had a small amount of weed.
While I agree with that, it really isn't the herb, it is the 3rd strike laws that leads to most of these cases. Proves once again that almost everything our politicians create can be abused. That is always the danger of giving too much power to the government. Everything they create will eventually get manipulated or abused. Some day maybe people will see it.

If this is the same guy, they are forgetting to mention the murder conviction. He was being sot for the murder and had the weed with him. He was convicted for life for the murder and given life for the drugs as well. So basically it didn’t matter what he got for the weed, he was doing life anyways.

I agreed it was to harsh until I looked around for more info. Looks like he was found with weed on him when he was caught on the murder charge. So technically he did get life for the weed, but he also got life for the murder.
