Is this a coaching issue or a personnel issue?

A great game plan will find the weakness and attacks it.

Brohm saw Lightfoot in on 3rd and long and ran directly at him for 1st downs.

If I saw Fitzgerald in the game I would figure out how to rotate him into the box and run his little a-s over.

Just like when LB Mauigoa was in you'd run wheel to his side.

O'Connor had no desire to tackle so you force him to by cracking the S/LB w/ the WR like IU did

Bissainthe was scared all night so it makes sense to run Q Draw at him, let the RB block him, and Mendoza ain't scared of whatever Poyser is doing out there diving around with his eyes closed.

re ripping at the ball vs. shoving dude out of bounds- that's stupid football on the DB's part. Sideline is the best tackler you have. "Indiana did not lose a fumble over its final 1,047 offensive plays and 15 games, only losing a fumble in the first quarter of its season opener." so they're not giving you any free possessions. Also you rip the ball out when you are in a vice tackle, not solo.

Bain, Moten, and Toure were willing and hats off to Toure- he played much better in space vs. IU than anyone all season. I doubt Hetherman said "put your head between your legs and kiss your butt goodbye instead of using our tackling technique"

The guys were hit in the mouth and some stepped up and some wilted. That's football.

PFF premium stat page -- our tackling grade was ranked in the 100s.

As other posters have chimed in, I'm not the only one who's heard this. It's been mentioned multiple times in podcasts and broadcasts.

It's a flawed stat that doesn't tell the whole story. I should've said up top that I absolutely LOVED our defense this year. Especially after the past two decades. It's crazy to think how good we were despite of this issue.

I just think this should be a simple thing to clean up if we're going to get over the hump.

The Mendoza qb draw was very frustrating to watch

Can’t discuss it here because the tackling was better than 2024, the worst defense ever fielded.

I think Hetherman will build upon this season. We are improving our tackling and should continue to do so. Yes, I saw many in the title game.
