Miss st 8 wins in 2007

How do people trash Mullen, but defend Butch's record at UNC?

4-8
8-5
8-5
8-5

I know, I know. His 2010 team would've been the '85 Bears if 100 guys didn't get suspended.

We know Butch can assemble a great staff and recruit and has won
Mullens we know none of that

It isn't to compare them its just crazy that Mullen is even in consideration

The leaky ****** that is tdjones obviously would've thought Jimmy Johnson was an average coach at Okie St. Too bad we hired that guy, right? He sucked.

Mullen does have an average record with Miss St. However for that trash school in the toughest division in football, average is great!

Mississippi State hasn't had a coach with an over .500 winning percentage since the 1950s. Mullen is at .597.

MSU is 7th of 7 teams in the SEC West in recruiting grounds and he has them competing in that league.

This is why you can't look strictly look at records.

This is perfect man. Jimmy was slightly above .500 and OK State has always been better than Miss St. That Jimmy guy was a terrible hire!

so Dan Mullen is now Jimmy Johnson?
Al Golden was too
we will be here again in 4 years
again average isn't bad but you want this guy at Miami

Agreed. However, besides looking at the hand he was dealt, do you honestly feel that he has shown enough for you to feel comfortable with us turning the program over to him at such a critical juncture? If we shouldn't look too hard at his record what qualities do you feel Mullen possesses that makes his unimpressive record so far at MissSt more palatable? Is it his gameday coaching/playcalling? The way he recruits relative to circumstances? The way he developes, motivates and/or relates to his players? I

I would honestly like those that are pro-Mullen to provide some reasons as to why this guy should be at the top of our list.

But his record at MSU is impressive. He is winning more there then anyone has in the last 50 years. To expect someone to build a championship contending team from a bottom dweller is ridiculous. Briles is the only guy that I can think of that has done that and he wasn't in the SEC West.

He's a great offensive mind, he is Tom Herman before Herman was Herman. He's worked under the most ruthless savage in college football and has won 2 NCs as an OC. IMO, he has the exact traits of a HC that wins titles. Obsessed with winning, kind of an egomaniac and *******, and he wants this job bad. Why? Because he knows he can win a title here.

Maybe I have different goals then most of the fans on this site. I want to see Miami dominate and win NCs, not win 9 games and compete for the Coastal. Mullen gives Miami that chance IMO.

Jackie Sherrill's run at MSU was comparable to Mullen's, if not better.

Sherrill WON the SEC West in 1998, came in 2nd in the West twice, and third three times.

Mullen has never won the West. His best finish is 2nd; otherwise, he's finished 4th or 5th.

Sherrill-led MSU teams' best end-of-year rankings were: 12 (1999), 22 (2000), 23 (1992), 24 (1994).

Mullen-led MSU teams have ended the year ranked twice: 11 (2014) (including finishing the season with three losses in the last four games, including GA Tech, and only beating one end-of-year ranked team); 15 (2010)

LOL
people don't now anything about him
they don't realize he took over a tem that won 8 games a year before he took over and he only improved on that 2 times

You really need to look deeper than Wikipedia team records. Miss St has been a bottom dweller in the SEC and he's gotten them respectable. They play in a division with Ole Miss, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, and Arkansas. If you're a recruit are you going to play for Miss St over any of those schools? They will never win big over those teams. The comparison to Jimmy lies because he was another coach that was never gonna do big things at the school he was at. He was constantly beat by Oklahoma and other Big 8 teams.

see above he took over a team that won 8 games just a year away from when he took over
I understand where he plays but in 7 years he cant beat any good teams?

OK ... so your taking a gamble with Blake James to have the same foresight as Sam Jankovich with this Hire when he couldn't make Golden get rid of his crappy DC for 2 years?

JC

People really under estimating how hard it is to recruit in that division.

Didn't mean to upvote this. Mullen is average as ****. To all of those that are trying to explain away his record, please explain then what you all are seeing to indicate that he is indeed a good/great coach.

Nick Saban had a 58% winning percentage at Michigan State. Mullen has a 61% winning percentage at Mississippi State. If it was up to you stupid *** fans LSU would've never hired Saban. You need a little bit of vision to find the next big thing at coaching. Somebody needs to save this stupid *** fanbase that's stuck in 1999 from themselves.

I don't see anything that Mullen does that indicates he's the "next big thing." I don't think his offense has the same competitive advantages it did when they first started rolling it out. It also depends on a particular type of player. He's solid. He'd probably do relatively well here. But, comparing him to Saban's ascension may lead to legit disappointment. At Mich St, Saban beat some really good teams - even the #1 team in the country. He also has an eye for coaching talent.

Hes doing it with 2 and 3 star players.

We get all if the excuses. He can't recruit, he is in a tough division, Mississippi State has no history, etc.

Now, understanding all of that, can someone PLEASE finally tell us what he has done to be held in such high regard? We know the excuses for why he HASN'T won anything, now please tell us what he has done that is so great.
