Mike Rumph

With his hire we better start getting those heritage kids, and i mean all of then they are loaded even more than STA in some spots, and we better get one or both of eubanks and burns

We weren't getting these kids when Rumph was their HS coach and involved with them daily...what makes people think we will get them now the he is gone and at UM???

Is that a serious question?

If we hire a proven DB coach to complement him AND we're finally able to start landing premier talent from American Heritage, then the Rumph hire could end up paying off. But a Rumph/Hartley combination coaching the DBs would be far too great a risk for such an important position group in Diaz' defense.

Assuming it's too late for the 2016 recruits from that school since Rumph's being hired less than a month before NSD, we'll need to land several of the following in future classes for this to make sense: Tedarrell Slaton, Tyson Campbell, Patrick Surtain Jr., Kyshaun Bryan, Marco Wilson.

I can't really speak about the other kids you mentioned, but I can tell you with certainty that the Rumph hire is a HUGE positive for the recruitment of Tyson Campbell. We could wind up seeing a E:60 or College GameDay profile on these events in a couple of years. Rumph could end up going from Campbell's optimist HC to High school HC to position coach in college. As long as we show steady improvement as a team, Campbell should be the Canes to lose. Naturally, Rumph will be his main recruiter, and I find it hard to believe that another coach could build a better relationship with Tyson than the guy that's coached him since he was six, seven years old.

Dead serious...Rumph couldn't deliver us Sony, Mackenzie etc. so why is he all of a sudden going to deliver these other kids when they will have a new HC in there ear with their own agenda???

Glad we hired Rumph for a 2018 kid, who is currently leaning LSU.

I think you missed his point. He didnt say that Campbell was a lock all of a sudden..he just said it was a positive. Hiring Rumph will hopefully improve our DB play and then lets hope that local DB studs will want to play under this system. LSU doesnt get big time DBs every year because mofos love Baton Rouge so much..its because they have a history of putting our stud DBs. And HS kids see that. Raymond is a hot name. Rumph can do the same for us hopefully.

Exactly, I never said he was solely hired to land him, I only spoke of the natural advantage that we will have if the hire is coupled with the steady improvement of the team. And another thing, stop reading so much into one crystal ball prediction on a 10th grader made by a guy that I'm willing to bet my left nut hasn't spoken to Tyson for 30 seconds. You act like the kid's parents are LSU alums or he moved here from Louisiana two years ago or some ****. I know that IF he's leaning heavily anywhere, it ain't LSU. This is a SoFla kid that is very excited to see how much the Canes can and will improve under Richt before he(his parents, actually) puts pen to paper. How can hiring Rumph(especially if he turns out to be an awesome DB coach) not increase our chances even more?

It's a valid question but the answer is "because golden".

Maybe because everybody loves and respects him.....

LOLOL so we hire their HC and he can't even land them? LMFAOOOOO same **** as Ice.

You don't hire coaches to bring in recruits. It DOESNT WORK HERE. Win games by getting the best possible staff, and kids will come.

Why are you assuming that richt only hired him to get burns and Eubanks? Maybe richt thinks he can coach?

Does richt have a time machine? The guy has never coached on this level. He has no idea how the dude can coach, no clue how he can teach kids a college system.

He was brought here to recruit, and like all recent recruiters hired here, won't recruit all that well if the team doesn't win.

Jeremy Pruitt was an assistant high school coach before Saban hired him to coach DB at Alabama. That worked out really well

maybe because he knew that golden is a **** coach and wanted what was best for his players?

Maybe because Rumph saw the clown show that was going on and didn't want to steer his kids into a disaster at the time.

Pruitt was a GA in 97 at Alabama before coaching HS. Then he came back and was Director of Player Development there from 07-09 before getting the DB coach job. I don't believe a single poster would be concerned if Rumph was coming in as a GA or to a different position before jumping into a full coaching position. Fact is, big time programs (which we like to at least think of ourselves as) should not be hiring straight from high school. We've been Goldenized to believe this is a proper next step for a South Florida High School Coach. Let the Temples of the world do that. We can then pick them off once they've proven themselves. Or we grow them internally with GA or assistant roles. I think folks are right to be rustled. Doesn't mean Rumph will fail and I'm certainly hoping he's the next Pruitt, but it is a concern.
