Mike Norvell ain't going nowhere suckas

NOPE!!!! You just aren't seeing the big picture of what he is trying to build. As a Canes fan the thing the scares me the most is the Semenholes..I mean Seminoles locking up Norvell to an even longer contract.

For sure.

The questions you've got to ask regarding a lot of programs this offseason is: specifically, how do you intend to make your program better? What is the benchmark for improvement? When is the standard for the program's "success" (or failure)?
At some point schools need to stop with these 10-year nearly fully guaranteed HC contracts and live with realistic expectations. Otherwise they're on the hook for ridiculous buyouts.

This was always the likely scenario. You can't pay $100M just for him to leave, no matter how justified it is. He's got you completely bent over the barrel.

I also think there's a decent chance he's back next year. They can't afford $100M now, but that number isn't that much lower at the of the season. Here is FSU's 2026 schedule:

OOC Schedule:
At Alabama
Notre Dame
Central Arkansas
Florida

ACC Schedule
Clemson
NC State
UVA
SMU
At Miami
At Louisville
At Pitt
At Boston College

What coach is signing up for that? They're gonna trot this loser's corpse out there again in 2026 to have him be a human punching bag while they try to fund raise and after 2026 they'll save a ton of money when they fire him due to his buyout, many of the assistant deals running out, and they have front-loaded almost all their NIL deals (as many teams have), those will be off the books.

But this is a very, very, very slippery slope for FSU right now. When you signed up to give a total loser this much guaranteed money, you're in trouble. They are not Texas A&M. There is a very good chance this program slides totally into oblivion (if they're not already there?) for the next several years. There is no "correct" or good way to do this. No matter what they do, they're ****ed.

Hate to see it.
I actually have them going undefeated next year but it has to be with Norvell. Any other coach and they lose every game. They about to turn the corner

They get leveraged into them out of fear that the coach in question is irreplaceable. See what Indiana just did with Cignetti for example.

And frankly, it’s a justified fear in many cases. History says getting an HC hire “right” back to back is pretty difficult for most programs.

The funny part is that FSU could easily can him because they have a very, very suitable coach on staff to be the interim HC but they're gonna stick it out even longer to their detriment. Stupid, but good for us.

FSU is probably clock watching norvell's buyout numbers.. Like they know exactly when it goes down but keep checking to see if it's changed anyway.

I don’t disagree, but I think these schools get bamboozled too soon. Indiana may end up regretting that contract. I think Cignetti is a **** of a coach. It’s obvious he’s done something special at Indiana, but can he sustain it? 5-6-7 years from now is Indiana going to be a perennial Big Ten contender maybe win a few conference titles?

Maybe the $100 million per team the Big Ten gets plus playoff revenue makes $11 million annually not such a large expenditure in context of the complete revenue stream.

Unless of course you’re a player. Cignetti and his staff might collectively earn $16 million but a lot of fans complain about revenue sharing and 80 to 100 players splitting up 20 million and some players making quite a bit in NIL income.
