As we all know by now, Bill Belichick is now the head coach at North Carolina. On Friday, new North Carolina GM and former Oakland Raiders GM Mike Lombardi joined Christopher Russo for his weekly segment on Sirius radio. Lombardi wasted no time taking a shot at the Miami Hurricanes head coach, Mario Cristobal.

Lombardi was asked by Russo to give a rundown of the responsibilities with his new job title. While providing the description of various responsibilities, Lombardi said:

“That job will entail player evaluations, developing a grading system, building a team around what you want to become. That’s so important, you know. In college you have all these first round picks. Well, you still got to build a team. I mean, Mario Cristobal has been wonderful in recruiting, but they haven’t been able to get to the final 12. You got to build a full team, it’s not about winning the recruiting battle. It’s about making the team the best it can be. So, for me that’s the job.”

 

Bill can either (1) resign and go quietly or (2) get fired and sue. If the allegations are true, it's best they separate amicably.
That said, Bill has been so reckless and unpredictable that UNC might be better off just paying him to leave.

I imagine there will be lawsuits from staffers and settlements to make it all go away.

Lombardi is awful. Always has been, and well before he even got to UNC. But with everything going on with that football program, there seems to be a concerted effort by national media to try and make Lombardi the scapegoat, and insulate Bill. Pretending that the head coach didn't know what Lomabardi was doing, what Bill's son was doing, and what many members of the staff were doing, is laughable.

Meanwhile, you can see what the UNC administration is doing. They are building a massive case against Bill and he will be fired with cause this year, and Bill will won't get that buyout money.

That said, the lawyers at UNC and anyone who cares about the university's image want Bill gone yesterday. The risk he poses to students & exposure for UNC is far too great for him to stay.

Furthermore, there's nothing to indicate Bill would make better decisions moving forward. He surrounds himself with too many individuals of questionable character, which brings his overall judgement and organizational skills into question.

Hearing all the stories of Bill's 20 year old girlfriend in practice and facility, showing footage of what was supposed to be have "hard knocks" type of show last year until they lost so much, that whole process of cancelling the show, not to mention drugs between coaches and players and players apparently sleeping with each other. This can be a full fledge hollywood movie.

Um this is absolutely crazy and wild and I hope this is just wrong info. A team is suppose to be family and if you have that type stuff going I can only imagine what else was allegedly happening.

Not at this level. People within the industry have been talking about it since last October. You're right that there are issues everywhere, but this has been something that has agents everywhere (for coaches and agents), talking about that they're even taken aback by. Outside of miraculously getting into the playoffs, which isn't going to happen, there's nothing that can save his job. And he will be fired with cause.

Basically. I agree — and have previously said — he needs to have a miracle season. Not playoffs, but 9 wins. He gets there and I’d bet a lot that he’s not fired.

In terms of other programs, you’re wrong. I’ll leave it at that. Football is full of scumbags and addicts. Ask Ed O.
