Among the crimson highlights this season under Leach were road wins at Oregon, Arizona and UCLA and a sweep over the Arizona and Oregon schools.
It is the seventh time a WSU coach has won the honor since 1981 (Bill Doba, Mike Price [2], Dennis Erickson, Jim Walden [2]).
Leach's Air Raid leads the nation this season in passing offense at 397.0 yards per game, and also in red zone offense, converting on 94.3 percent of their scoring opportunities inside the 20-yard line.
Leach is also a semifinalist for the George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year award, to be announced Dec. 21. Leach won the award in 1998 while at Texas Tech. That season he also wont the Woody Hayes Award, Howie Long/Fieldturf National Coach of the Year and Big 12 Coach of the Year.
Leach and the Cougs are awaiting a bowl bid, with the selection expected to be officially announced Sunday on ESPN's selection show, which begins at 9:30 a.m.

Leach was involved in the Craig James scandal 5 years ago.

He is a clean guy.

Has done an unbelievable job at WSU.
 
Leach is too strong a personality for Flake and the BOT to handle. He won't even get a look.
 
THis administration should've hired Leach twice. Before the Shannon and Golden error. I have no faith they will make the right decision this time around.

Hilarious. Triumph of low expectations, accomplished by runaway ineptitude the prior two seasons. We're supposed to be impressed with 8-4 including a home loss to Portland State as 30 point favorite.

That team was a freckle from 6-6 or worse this season. Many very tight games they pulled out in the final seconds, some amidst fortunate circumstances. Granted, they could have won the Stanford game.

Leach found a talented young quarterback. Minus that guy, the team as a whole is fragile and pathetic. Last week a 5-6 Washington team trampled Leach and Washington State 45-10 in the rivalry game, exposing every weakness.

He's good at what he does. He finds talented qbs and wins football games with them. Wazzu was a dumpster fire and they shoulda beat Stanford this yr and been playing for the pac 12 champ. This guy has success everywhere he goes.

WSU fans are crazy happy with an 8-4 record. Have you seen his recruiting rankings. DUde is over achieving with 2 stars and walk-ons. Just think if he was ever to get a top 10 recruiting class. Nobody wants to play in Pullman
