Mike Leach......LMAO

awful loss and not a good track record of them. to his credit he's done more in Lubbock and Pullman than most could

I'd have taken him over Shannon or Golden, so lets at least have some context when trying engage in a massive straw man call out thread.

Nothing makes me think Leach would've been a better hire than Shannon. I'd rather take the shot with the guy who knows what Miami is about and at least tried to win with that and run the program the right way. Shannon never lost to the FCS.

Nothing to make you think that? Nothing at all? Really??? And then you say that Randy never lost to an FCS team. Hmmm...

Did Randy ever have three 9-win seasons at a school that had never had a nine win season in its program's history? Because Mike Leach did.

Did Randy ever have a team with an 11 win season? Because Mike Leach did.

And what has the marketplace told us about these two gentlemen? One has not been rehired or ever re-offered as a head coach, the other was rehired at a Power 5 conference school.

Spike Dykes won 9 games in 1989 and 1995. The difference is that Dykes coached in the 11-game era and his schedules included road games against ranked non-conference teams. Leach had the luxury of 12 games and his OOC opponents were all cupcakes like Sam Houston State and Indiana State.

Shannon also didn't get 9 years and a roster finally loaded for a one-time run at things. Notice that Leach lost 4 or 5 games in the two years immediately before 2008 AND the two years immediately after 2008.

The other was hired at literally the worst Power 5 program. Literally THE worst. And the fans there can't stand him. Freaking Ron Zook and Will Muschamp got "rehired". That's probably not the standard I would use.

Exactly. That's the point seldom made or understood. Dykes and Leach had virtually identical conference W/L percentage, almost to the fraction. The only difference was Texas Tech played a very aggressive non-conference schedule under Dykes. They had home and home series against top foes from major conferences. Leach inherited some of that scheduling early in his tenure and had problems, like back to back losses to North Carolina State and Philip Rivers.

By all accounts, Leach pushed to dramatically soften the non-conference schedule. It worked in his favor and helped forge a phony reputation, along with the occasional conference upset of name brand Big 12 power. He always had trouble with the little guys, notably Colorado which feasted on Leach even in its lowest seasons.

I was posting on Canesport at the time. When we pursued Leach after 2006 many of their fans swarmed the board. The topic of the cupcake out of conference schedule came up and a few of them detailed that Leach was responsible for the different approach in September. Somehow at Washington State he loses the early games even when they shouldn't be stressful.

I do give Leach credit for agreeing to a game at Boise State next week. That's far more ambitious than his norm. Boise State has never beaten Washington State. They played only 4 times and all during a good run for Washington State football in the late '90s and early '00s.

Plenty of dopey cumbums on here were drooling for that idiot because they love his swagger. He says dumb **** so they thought that would make him a perfect fit here. They loved the whole butt pirate schtick too.

Some wanted Dan mullen and some wanted leach. Both for reasons unknown..

Im not judging this off the famu game BTW, but I've never been happier with a coaching hire for any team I follow than the richt hire. Gonna be an exciting turn around for us

I remember when a bunch of fans on this site clamored for Mike leach good times...

That's why people with slightly better resumes and intellect profiles make the hiring decisions, and the people that wanted Leach wear hair nets and serve them their lunch.

Yeah, like Randy and Al? Come on, Leach was hot name at TT and we got Randy instead. Mike turns out to be a nut case no doubt and I didn't want him but are your really tiring to hold picking Randy over him as a symbol of superior intellects? Those morons you value so highly would have done better just letting a monkey throw darts at a list of names. Are you on school's payroll?

At the time.. Again at the time.. Randy was a good hire imo. He was different enough to change the culture and he ran the defense and had ties to the community and past through the glory years. I'm not sure how many of us were upset with the hire.

It only turned out later that he didn't know what he was doing and put Miami back several years

Leach is what he is. Good enough to make a crappy school competitive and fun to watch but not good enough to make the jump from good to great. He's not interested in recruiting and he cares nothing for defense. He would have won 8 or 9 games a year at Miami and been fired after 5 seasons.

Am I on the school's payroll? No.

I'm the guy you serve lunch to, though. Get me some more rolls, willya.

As bad as Leach is there, he'd STILL have been better than the last two clowns we hired.
