Not as big a name as most people would like, but he has DC experience (at UNT and as Co-DC at Indiana), has spent most of his career coaching LBs and even coached ILBs for a couple of seasons at UGA under Richt, and has a decent reputation as a teaching coach. His stint as a DC at North Texas was positive, and he turned that defense around in one season. Cut his teeth under Bo Pilini and Pete Carroll. Ekeler has jumped around a lot, but his moves have typically been to better programs or jobs.
No inside information here, but he's a coach that may be on Richt's radar considering the resume and familiarity. Among coaches that I think Richt would hire that we have a chance at bringing in, Ekeler seems like a decent option -- and is certainly a better option than elevating anyone currently on the staff).
