Who cares? James Corley is a below average play caller, has never developed a great QB in his career, and is being exposed as an overrated recruiter of South Florida. He's gonna be gone next year when Golden is fired anyway.

according to who? IMO You could put Trob, Coley, Tim Brewster, Jeremy Pruitt, George McDonald, etc. on this staff as position coaches to recruit and they wouldn't be able to lock South Florida up because of the head guy

Can't afford to allow rookie OC's to match wits with SEC vet coaches. Georgia got SoFl best RB Sony and best returner in McKenzie all while Coley was a few miles away. So ixney that theory

Proving my point. There is no such thing as a "great recruiter". It's nonsense. Unless you are truly unlikeable, recruiting success is based on how strong the brand is, how good the team is, the head coach, where the school is, and who pays momma. This idea that James Coley is a better convincer than any other young DI assistant is nonsense. At FSU he had a better coach to sell, a program that was improving yearly, a huge brand, no academic restrictions, and no academic requirements at the school, and booster money.

It's why having a staff full of "recruiters" is and always will be retarded. The OC of the Miami Hurricanes shouldn't be some green "cool guy" just bc FSU was hooking dudes up. It's idiocy.

Coley isn't leaving right now. He has a Freshman AA he found and recruited. Kaaya has shot at being serious Heisman contender and Al Golden is NOT going to get credit for it. Coley wrights his own ticket in another year on Kaaya's back. Brad is going to make a lot of people some money. Any TE or RB with receiving skills will get plenty of NFL looks. Coley will get the credit.

a lot of these hires are connection based -- dont see the connection with Richt and Coley.

I disagree. You can talk to recruits and they will point blank tell you who they like better and who's a better recruiter. All from elite schools with elite head coaches. There is a reason they promoted coley to OC is because they knew he was a great recruiter that they wanted to keep.

It's just impossible to be a great recruiter on a staff with 4 years of medicority & the same head coach

Yes, and another thing: recruiting is a combination of finding the right guys, and getting them to come to your school. Coker, remember, had no trouble getting guys to come to Miami. But he just went out, found highly rated players, and signed them up.

Coley was, by all accounts I've read, the first guy to figure out that Brad Kaaya was going to be good, and put in the work to get him signed. That, to me, is real recruiting.

He hasn't been able to convince top South Florida kids to sign, but that may be because those kids aren't idiots. He's trying to sell them on the idea that they're the missing piece in a Miami program that's ready to be a winner. The problem is, the games are on TV.

South Florida parents are also very football savy. Reminds me of the scene in the first U movie with the lady coaching the little dudes and yelling at them. The parents can see this staff sucks and so can the kids. The polite, slicked hair look, and strong academic school pitch ain't cutting it anymore. These kids want to win, get to the league and support their family. Nothing else matters to them.

This multiplied by infinity. Been saying this since this season imploded. The fat loser HC has no tricks or scams left to sell to the locals. The locals are totally hip to the fat fraud now. Year 4, and that 6-6 record with 2 straight games where his team completely quit on him was the final nail in his oversized coffin.

A good salesman should be able to sell anything. If he can't sell recruits to come to sunny South Florida, then the other schools must be using bag men or he is not putting in the work. When we were good, the other schools would sell early playing time. There is always something to sell to counterbalance 4 year of mediocrity.

Ask other coaches how hard it is to recruit at other schools.

Try recruiting for Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, West Virginia, Virginia Tech etc

Recruiting to Miami is one of the easiest schools to recruit for in the country. We've never locked down South Florida and Al Golden sucking at coaching doesn't help. It the divas down here want to be front runners, then we go out of state to recruit and sell the year round warm weather.
