Michael Johnson Jr to Penn State

My 2 cents.

I don't mind that we missed out on MJJ. He's not a Justin Fields or a Jarren Williams.

He would've had to sit on the bench for the next 2-3 years and may have never seen a snap here. Probably the same situation at Penn State. He may be a guy that transfers.

My problem is the recruiting aspect. We put all our eggs in 1 basket and couldn't win out in his recruitment. On top of that, what else is Richt Jr. doing this recruiting cycle? Probably nothing and that's the problem that I have.

On top of that, I seriously question our evals. We offered Sitkowski when a majority of posters on this forum were questioning why this was going to be our QB for the last cycle. Months later, he finally realized that Sitkowski was not Miami caliber and luckily Jarren Williams fell into our laps.
i agree with this. the problem i have is not that we lost the guy. i don't blame any coach for a kids decision. they can't force the kids to do what we want them to do. i do blame the staff for putting all their eggs in one basket. that is just bad planning. by the way the same thing happened last year with Sits but in that case we dumped him. we still had to scramble for a kid later in the cycle.

MJJ sucks balls as a QB prospect. Sitkowski also was clearly horrible as a QB prospect. Luckily Jarren was boys w all the Miami commits from the Opening. Otherwise we would have been SOL last year.

A bunch of dudes that are fans and are not getting paid for this sht but rather spend hard earned money on the product are smarter about it than Lil Richt. End the nepotism and get rid of bum *** Johnny boy. I want a QB coach who can make smarter evals and close on guys with mutual interest (what it is, Tai).

Agree for the recruiting cycle it is a miss. But with the lack of overall talent I am not sure how much of a miss. The all eggs in one basket is troubling but if no one else is worth an egg, or we know they have no interest then why waste an egg. Still time for an under the radar kid to pop-up (unlikely) but I would be fine with looking at the transfer market. Even a grad transfer for next year. Have to think once Rosier grad, and one of the 3 remaining QB's is entrenched as the starter that someone will transfer from us, leaving us with 2 QB's, get a grad transfer who can bring some leadership, not hurt against a scholly spot, and be able to plug in a pinch and focus on '20.

Also, transfers happen a lot. Look at the clemson 5* who just transferred, the QB market is more abundant outside of HS than any other position.

I agree to an extent. I don't want a kid this cycle just to have one. Make sure he's someone you can develop and after 2-3 years, could compete for a starting gig.

My thing is, is Richt Jr going to start helping the other coaches in recruiting? If not, what else is he going to do?

I really don’t care we don’t need a qb and if the staff decided there is still time to recruit another one but I don’t want a qb this class tbh

You take a QB every SINGLE cycle. Otherwise when Jarren wins the job next year and the guy(s) transfer who don't get the job, you're not 1 play away from Augie DeBiase under center.

Where we really went wrong was waiting to get strung along by a single guy, who, by the way, wasn't any good anyway

At best MJJ was John Franklin from Last Chance U. Good athlete, not a QB. And this was the only guy good enough to get recruited by us? FOH mane

I just don’t think we’re that far off from Clemson. All these teams have real playmakers at QB . Imagine if we had ****n Baker Mayfield on our team last year. Undefeated. We beating Clemson. **** even if we just swapped Rosier with Bryant I think that game is much different last year and we definitely don’t lose to Pitt.

FSU got a ring basically because they got Jameis Winston. They really weren’t that great of a team outside of him regardless of all the 4 an 5 Stars. That’s why Jimbo gone now, he couldn’t find another QB/ Francois got hurt.

I think Richt has done a great job on the field, in recruiting and off the field to get us where we need to be . All we need is one dog at QB...

We still don't win against Clemson last year, I don't care who the QB is. They could've hung 70 on is if they wanted and a QB isn't changing that. Do our fans watch games or does an idea pop into

Dude, just stop, Mayfield doesn't win us a ship last year. Clemson didn't beat us because of our offense, it was the defense that would still be our downfall. They could've hung another 21 to 28 points on us if they wanted to. Bryant had one, if not his best game ever, against us.

These coaches need to step their game up before ship comes out od anyones mouth.

FSU had a **** good defense the year they won with Winston. Winston was a gamer and as for Francois, they had nothing after him. They got caught up with not enough numbers there last year and a string been true frosh who wasn't anywhere near ready.

I swear, I think a lot of posters get a thought in their head and just run with it without thinking. Just get a QB, yup, that's all it would've taken.

I wonder About the philosphy all together. Not just at richt but other coaches as well. Seems like they lock on and recruit their position for the most part and not nothing else. I want Our top dogs on the trail on some of our top targets too you know what I mean? For an example James coley and how he got Tyson Campbell

Yes the latter I agree completely. Want to give your son a gig as a analyst or something like that, fine. If he works his way up through the system, fine (I want to say even Belichick has his son on the Patriots staff) No one believes Richt Jr. has sole discretion when it comes to QB's but with Richt being a head coach, OC, and QB coach? That is a lot. I don't see Richt giving up coaching QB's, it is kinda his thing so it would make sense to bring in a stud recruiter who can assist Richt with coaching QB's the same way JR is.

Who recruited Perry and Williams then ? Two 4 stars .

He definitely ain’t developing sht tho but I feel like he’s recruited well up until now .

You believe Jon Richt recruited those two? Him being the QB coach understandably gets some credit but those guys recruitment was a bit different. I think the entire staff recruited both...Mark Richt I believe was the point man.

I'm not particularly mad about missing on this kid as I wasn't really crazy about him in the first place. Having no plan B is frustrating though. You hate to see the staff put all their eggs in one basket regardless of position.

Now for the good news. There's technically 3 freshmen QBs already on the roster so the cupboard is hardly bare. The staff was able to flip Williams late last year after putting all their eggs in the ****kowski basket early, so that's still a possibility. Thirdly, blue chip QBs transfer constantly. Especially with schools like UGA and Clemson signing them by the dozen. None of those guys are going to sit the bench for three years or more. They'll eventually want to go somewhere they can start. People here like the bring up the fact that our guys can transfer out without considering the fact that guys can transfer in just as easily.

Name one for this cycle.
It is crazy to me why we would abandon most of the talent around the Country simply because we are in a crooting hotbed. ID the best fit for your program and if there is any mutual interest, recruit him no matter where the kid plays. Why limit our options?

Scalzo.

A little north, but would have recruited Maurer too.

Not offering Taisun early was a mistake if you're looking at national recruits.

They put all of their eggs in this basket...and they got nada.

Not worried about not getting this kid at all.

I just guess kids have short memories, or the bond to Franklin must be strong

But just me personally, I could never set foot in that building.

And the thought of taking my clothes off and showering in the place where those human atrocities took place sickens and disgusts me. Just writing about it nauseates me. I don’t have the stomach for showering there, placing my feet on those tiles were the disgusting fluids flowed.

If it was up to me, I’d bulldoze the scene of those crimes against humanity.
I guess I’m just not built for it.

Fūcking disgusting program and a fan base that still excuses those atrocities like they’re nothing. Like those little boys were just disposable used up garbage. I can never forgive it.

They better be scouting hard to find another qb. Or at the bare minimum, offer the best guy in so fla and call it a day. you people who think we dont need a qb this cycle are crazy

what , did you watch the game ? We had multiple missed opportunities in the beginning of the game on offense . Or did you miss Jeff Thomas running wide open downfield for a bomb ? So you mean to tell me we still lose to Pitt and Wisconsin with a Baker Mayfield talent at QB ? Ok.

You believe Jon Richt recruited those two? Him being the QB coach understandably gets some credit but those guys recruitment was a bit different. I think the entire staff recruited both...Mark Richt I believe was the point man.
Do we have proof that he DIDNT tho ? Otherwise it just comes off as picking and choosing what he does or doesn’t get credit for to fit the narrative. It was reported that he was a big reason Nkosi still came . Now all of a sudden the whole staff recruited them ?

Did we not have a **** good defense last year as well ? Tf are you saying ? They could’ve hung 21 more because our offense couldn’t stay on the **** field for more than 5 minutes . But you got the audacity to ask if I watched the game lol did you .

It was jon. He camped out in ocala to get perry in the class. The friday night before a game on a saturday he flew to georgia to watch jarren play after they split sith stikowski.

Has it been confirmed that the staff has no plan B recently? I'd like to imagine that we are doing SOMETHING behind the scenes here.

You have proof that he DID OTHER THAN HIM JUST BEING THE QB COACH?

Otherwise it just comes off as being a blind idiot dumb fcuking homer and giving him credit for the previous staff recruit (Perry) and a kid that the players at the Opening put the staff aware of.

& Show me these reports where Kosi mentioned Jon Richt as a reason why he came?
