Michael Irvin

we've had hall of famers on the sidelines countless times in 25 years…Doesn't help.
And during our heyday as well. The only difference is exposure thru technology, where every one and their mother can record things. Growing up watching them and the Fins at the OB saw plenty of Fins alumni and Canes alumni on the sidelines this is nothing new.

One of my favorite memories was Fins/Bears Monday night the entire ‘72 team was on the sidelines, they were making sure Da Bears unbeaten record ended that night, it was glorious. Never in my life did I see or hear my Dad and Godfather(RIP) cheer and jump like giddy little girls, like I did that night as they saw the ‘72 team on the sidelines. No lie I knew we were not losing that night. Still brings chills thinking about that night

Ole school cane...this is why we won in the past. No one has alumni that cares about their football program the way we do, it's about tradition living up to the standard. All you new cane fans don't understand and that's why you react in this way!! Those boys needed to understand the urgency of the situation and in alot of ways is why we won the past. I'm glad CMC allows this because thise kids need to see that **** is bigger than them.
You’re spot on. Mike also can give them insight from so many wars that he went through in how to stay focused and in the moment. Sometimes the moment can be too big. Having someone like Mike there encouraging them and giving them advice on how to handle the situation is something that is invaluable. This is part of what has always set the U apart from other programs, and for the past almost two decades, many of our head coaches didn’t want our legends on our sidelines, which I think was detrimental to our team.

How can you as a current student athlete not want to play harder when the game sometimes seems to be more important to past players then the current players? If you look at Michael Irvin reaction to the win when the players were walking into the locker room and he was with Popo; it look to me like Popo was like this man is crazy!! But the game means more to the past generation then it does to the current players....maybe!!
