Lost in the glory of whipping notre dame's *** last weekend was the fact that Michael Badgley achieved a truly amazing milestone as a UM football player. Last Saturday Michael Badgley surpassed Carlos Huerta's field goal record at UM. This deserves mention.
What a great achievement for Michael Badgley. A tip of the cap and a thread with your name in the title is most certainly warranted.
(And for the younger fans, please understand, as a kicker, any time your name is mentioned in the same breath as Carlos Huerta you know you've done something right.)
Carlos Huerta's College career[edit]
Huerta attended the University of Miami, where he was a walk-on kicker for the Miami Hurricanes football team from 1988 to 1991.[SUP][3][/SUP] During his four years as a starter, he led the Hurricanes in scoring.[SUP][3][/SUP] He still holds the Hurricanes career records for points after touchdowns (PATs), field goals, and total points, as well as the top three season records for consecutive PATs in a season, the top four season records for field goals, and the top three season records for points scored kicking and field goals in a game.[SUP][3][/SUP] As a senior in 1991, he was recognized as a consensus first-team All-American, having earned first-team honors from the Associated Press, the Walter Camp Football Foundation, Football News and The Sporting News.[SUP][3][/SUP]
He graduated from the university with a bachelor's degree in business administration, and was later inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame.[SUP][3][/SUP]
While at Miami, he was given the nickname "The Iceman" because of how cool he stayed no matter what the situation.[SUP][4][/SUP]
But in this thread we celebrate Michael Badgley. Congratulations, young man. You came to The U and made your mark in UM history.
