Miami wants Jackson's Flowers at WR or S

My point was not to compare him to Wilson, but to say that being 5'10" does not disqualify you. Flowers is a bona fide playmaker with a strong arm. Tell him he gets a shot at QB, coach him up and see if the coaching takes. If it doesn't move him to safety or grant his release. What is wrong with this plan?

you're right, 5'10" shouldn't disqualify one of the best arms in the country (wilson), or one of the best athletes in the country (vick) from getting a shot at a major program, or in the pros. but if he is neither of those, and he doesn't fit the QB mold Coley has in mind, the point is irrelevant.

the problem with that plan, is you are then throwing a scholarship and two years of development at a position of need (e.g. another DT) away. he is not a lock to play qb, and until he shows he is willing to change position, it is not something you use a scholarship on. if his outlook was that he would love to play QB but would play whatever was needed to make it at the next level, the conversation changes, but nothing so far points to that being his attitude.

moving him to safety, or granting him his release if he finds himself buried is exactly what we cannot afford, even more so if the NCAA feels the need to tack on a few scholarships lost when their ruling is made. at least not until golden gets cutthroat and oversigns every year with the intent of trimming the fat a la Bama.

I think we have a couple of spots every year built in for BPA types, knowing that some will transfer. It's why we always make a run at a few post-spring transfers / late qualifiers...we clearly have a reserve. He's worth one of those spots.

I dont care what this kid did in Dade county. Alot of kids dominated Dade. Ethnic Sands dominated Dade at QB AND has two state rings to show for it and you didnt see him have this attitude. Sean Taylor dominated Dade at RB and you didnt see him have this attitude. Jason Geathers dominated Palm Beach at every position imaginable. As the days go by im starting to like this kid less and less. He is not a freak athlete. He isnt transcending. He isnt once in a decade. And Al Golden must agree with me because he isnt changing his mind about what position his offer is at.

And what is really gonna **** me off is that this clown is gonna pull an Anquan Boldin on us. He is gonna commit to (enter whatever school) as a QB. Once fall camp is over and he sees he is not cut out to be a QB at a D1 school, he will switch to WR or S. SMH.

I like that he wants to play QB. Nothing's wrong with that. There is a stigma to black QB's. They have to be athletic. Can't be a straight up pocket passer. The day will come when there is a Black Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers. Yes that day will come. I can't wait because when that day comes people will stop tripping over the "He's athletic!" "Let's make _____________ position!!"
Instead scouts will say let him play QB.

IMO you only bring in Flowers if he is willing to switch to another position if he gets beat out at QB, he is a **** of an ATH and would want him on this team.

Dream QB class:

QB - Brad Kaaya

QB - Malik Rosier

QB/ATH - Quinton Flowers (taking Alin Edouard's spot as a QB that could switch to another position if he gets beat out) IMO Make this same offer to Treon Harris as well.

Alin Edouard can play QB at USF, UCF Louisville etc... not Miami. (please don't compare this kid to Teddy Bridgewater if it that was your plan after reading Louisville)

I don't really want to take 3 QBs in this class, but really want to land Flowers as a Safety and Treon Harris as a CB/WR.

It is kind of ****ty that both Flowers and Harris don't see that their real chance of making big money and setting up their futures along with their families lies in them playing WR or DB in college and preparing themselves at that position for the NFL where they will def get drafted higher for playing it in college. I mean what NFL team is going to take either at QB? They will end up just like Dennard Robinson and get drafted to play WR or DB, so why not raise your stock by actually playing those positions in college and proving to scouts that they are 1st or 2nd round material instead of dropping to the 5th round or worse and loosing out on MILLION$!

While I don't disagree with some of the points you make, I don't think it is fair to get angry at him, dump on him, or call him a clown. The kid wants to continue to play QB. Doesn't make him a clown (or Golden wrong for passing on him). It's his life. I'm sure many of us could second guess each others life choices. (For example, you may think Denard is a fool and passed up money. He may think it was a great effing time, it was worth it to take his shot, and he'd do it all over again.)

Well if you have seen Flower's highlights then you would see that he most def is not a pocket passer and the best part of his game is his athletic ability, and that is why we all want him at Safety or WR instead of QB. So please take that black QB bs somewhere else.

Stephen Morris and Brad Kaaya are black QBs who are pocket passers that no one says we should switch to other positions. Treon Harris, Quinton Flowers, and even Alin Edouard are not, they are athletic QBs mainly put at the QB position by their HS coach b/c they are the best ATH on the team and they want the ball in their hands every play, not b/c they see the next Payton Manning in them.

I want the kid here because he's a winner. At the same time I don't want to take him if he's not at least willing to consider a position change if other QB's are better than he is.

He is a winner because he is a competitor. He wants a chance to compete. We don't know that he's not willing to switch positions if he gets beat out. He hasn't been beaten out. Until then, Kaaya and Rosier mean nothing to him.

Sign the most talented and competitive players. The downside with Winky is minimal and the upside is enormous. Let's stop losing South Florida studs for dumb reasons.

Not for nothing, but the coaches are telling him they prefer him at DB, and they are taking commitments from other QB's. He is either too stupid or too stubborn to listen to our coaches at this point. What exactly makes you think that he will listen to them once he gets here? Kid's like these don't want to hear the truth sometimes.

I just do not understand how some people continue to stick to this old dogma. Know who else has a weird throwing motion? Kaepernick. The guy who just took his team to the effing Super Bowl. That was drafted behind studs like Blaine Gabbert and Christian Ponder. I would sign Rosier and Kaaya and I would also sign Harris and Edouard and ESPECIALLY Winky, because the worst that happens is they can't play QB, we tell them that after a year and they transfer and we haven't lost anything. I for one want to at least give "the next Anquan Boldin" a shot, and if that means using his redshirt year early on letting him try QB so be it.

Signing everyone is a great strategy if this was 1980, and you had unlimited scholarships to hand out. Unfortunately, with the total and yearly limits in place you can't take 5 QBs and then wait for 3 of them to transfer because you'll be missing out on other guys you need at other positions.

People always take those comments out of text which is why I tend to leave race/politics/religion out of my post. But I am tired of seeing everytime a black QB can run the immediate label is that the QB needs to switch positions in college. Which may or may not be better for the kid.
Your argument makes abosultely no sense and contains no substance. It's not worth arguing with one like you. The point is not just Flowers but almost all QB's that are fast (not just black, look at Johhny Football) get labled with the He's a runner! That is a FACT. My source. None other than these scouts and media that always have something negative to say about black and mobile QB's that want to continue playing QB. One day we will see the pass-first, run-second QBs, that are mobile. Maybe it has already started with Andrew Lucks, Russel Wilson, Colin Kaepernick and RGIII.

Every post I make when it comes to a point, I only bring up FACTS. I will once again reiterate my statement. The first thing people think of when you say "black QB" is that he can run. That is not a bad analysis and for the most part true. Only Donovan Mcnabb and Geno Smith in recent times have been pocket passers and McNabb started a runner but developed into a pocket passer.

Ok. So I shouldnt have called him a clown. But tell the young man to just keep his mouth shut. Dont do interviews saying you arent considering anyone who doesnt want you at QB but then say you have ALA in ur top 3 and they clearly want to take a "quick look" at your WR skills. Thats BS.

Exactly. We are likely taking 2 QBs this cycle. I for one do not like Flowers more than Kaaya or even Edouard (Who I am not a big fan of).

i said this in another thread about that kid from the university school that has been talking smack, does he really think that those colleges really want him at QB, they are saying that just to get him

Miami Jackson QB Quinton “****y” Flowers doesn’t have much else to prove at the high school level, but he’s not using that as an excuse to slack off during spring practice. He’s been focused on improving his connection with transfer receiver Jovon Durante (2015) as well as continuing to work on his quarterbacking skills.

“Spring’s going good. We got a couple of players that came in and I’m trying to get everything down with Jovon (Durante). Most colleges look at me as a receiver or free safety, but just like I said to everybody else, I’m going to college to play quarterback because I’ve been playing it all my life so why go to the next level to play something else. Ain’t nobody gonna change that of me,” said Flowers.

As far as quarterback-specific skills, Flowers has worked on one thing in particular.

“Most critics say I can’t throw to my left, so I’m showing people now that can I can do it with accuracy. A lot of people say that I try to always run, but I try to make everyone look good, not just myself.”

The athletic QB’s recruitment recently took a big jump when Alabama offered.

“I just got Alabama not too long ago. Clemson is interested in me. Illinois gave me an offer too.”

What were his thoughts on that ‘Bama offer?

“As a young man and student-athlete, I was very excited about the Alabama offer because they’ve won a lot of championships and that town is really into football. My coach from 7-on-7 called me and told me I had the offer. They said they like me at quarterback, but they say they wanna see me work at reveiver too.”

Prior to signing day, the hometown Miami Hurricanes were the favorite for Flowers. Recent developments have led the Jackson star to reconsider, though.

“Miami came to the school and they talked to me for a little bit and they wasn’t saying much about me playing quarterback. They were talking about receiver or free safety like some of the other schools so I feel like that’s not a place I will be going and they’re not on my mind until maybe later on down the line when I look at everything.”

**Flowers says his top 3 is Alabama, Marshall, and USF.
one of these things is not like the other.. I do love that about saban though, he will tell kid "sure, you're going to get a shot at QB"... then switch him to receiver with 0 qualms...

Perks of those championship rings.

I don't see anything wrong with him wanting to play qb... I don't think we should bash the kid... I always say I'd it takes you playing qb to play wr or db at the next level then do it... We don't know if the kid can catch, tackle, run routes or cover... I'll like to see him behind a solid line because his highlights show a putrid oline...

The kid wants to play qb oh well... More power to him... I hope he does well and I think he will... Golden feels better about his prospects and that's great... It is possible that two parties can make the right decision concerning their intentions... In the past we lost studs like Antonio Bryant and Snoop Minnis but we won as well because we had Moss, Wayne and AJ...

Lol @ Malik Rosier being a "dream" qb.

Regardless this Flowers dude is just another dime a dozen athlete w/ no real position.... who cares???
