What are you on about?
Sports are basically the same as well as outdoor venues across this land. Shut downs are based on how near to the location of the last strike is to the place of interest. If you're five minutes into a 30 miunute hold and another occurs, restart the timer.
There are entire systems and companies that this is their business and from little leagues to the pros, they're all using less than a handful of services to monitor the last strike and at what distance. There is no storm front distance measuring as lightning can travel quite far outside of a storm. This is scientific with actual verifiable data while what a meteorologist thinks is not as accurate as him looking at the same data that these systems provide.
NCAA Rule: The NCAA's rule for lightning is to implement a 30-minute delay after the last observed lightning strike or sound of thunder within an 8-mile radius of the venue. If another lightning event occurs during the delay, the 30-minute clock restarts. A designated person monitors weather, and the safety of all individuals is the highest priority for delaying or canceling games.
Disney Rule: Disney closes outdoor rides, attractions, parades, and fireworks during lightning by suspending operations when lightning is detected within a certain radius, typically around 10 miles, and will only resume operation once the last strike is more than 20 miles away. Guests are advised to seek shelter indoors during these periods, as indoor attractions generally remain open, and tickets are not refunded for weather-related closures.
