We can has baskets against a zone?!

Especially if he's still working on his outside game.I still don't think that's a foregone conclusion re: Shelton going pro after one year. He'll certainly be a far more impactful freshman than Jalil was but this upcoming draft is incredibly deep and he's incredibly close with Lucas/his family, so I'd imagine he'll lean towards coming back for another year unless he absolutely blows up this season.
Where's Nijel Pack when we need him?limited sample size obviously, but the 3 point shooting concerns may have been warranted
Compare the ball movement against the stagnation we saw last season. Of course, there is still a long way to go but ... some promising signs for a first game.
And you make that assumption off of Game 1 vs Jville? Let the season play out and see how his game translates against better opponents and ACC play. Let's not put the cart in front of the horse.I was hoping to group together Shelton and Gaskins next year. But, I see now Shelton is 1 and done. Hes a lot more day 1 ready than Bethea was.
Im basing it off his athletic profile and the fact he looks natural. Most guys with that build are stiff and robotic moving. Hes smooth. Its a pretty rare build combined with the athleticism. And you make that assumption off of Game 1 vs Jville? We actually attacked the heart of the zones rather than trying to shoot teams out of it .Compare the ball movement against the stagnation we saw last season. Of course, there is still a long way to go but ... some promising signs for a first game.
Great write up.It was a good home opening win against a team like Jacksonville.
Reneau looked like the best player on the court & appears to be our "Go get a bucket" guy. Slashing stretch 4 that plays with nice touch in the Mid/High-Post.
Liked what I saw from Udeh on the boards, he's aggressive on the glass, not quite the level of Omier, but gives similar effort attacking the boards.
Henderson looked special as Freshman, he's got all the tools to be a NBA player. Has to learn to get his feet under him on Defense to stay out of foul trouble, but he has everything needed to be a primary catalyst scorer.
I liked Tru Washington's on ball Defense, he's a smart player that can shoot & make plays off the dribble.
Tre Donaldson can be very good for us if he plays more in control. His shot selection will probably be a topic of discussion throughout the season. On one hand, you like for your Guard to have the confidence to put'em up without hesitation, on the other hand, bad shots always come back to haunt us in ACC play.
I liked what we got from the bench as well.
We appear to have more depth than last year's squad & obviously it's only 1 game, but it looks like Jai Lucas will play more than just 7 guys.
We'll see what the rotations look like after a few more games, but Malovec & the 2 Allens provide some good depth off the bench, particularly Marcus.
We shot well from the FT line, abysmal from 3 & overall were very efficient from the floor.
Dominated on the boards & in the paint offensively, but turned the ball over too much.
Perimeter backcourt Defense is gonna be tested as competition gets better & we play teams that shoot better from distance, but overall it was a very solid showing for a team that has never played together & a Coach in his first game as a HC.
E.J., is that really you? Our starting QB back in 1976/77 and then WR in 1978? Out of Lakeland? Some rough years for the Canes football program. And you make that assumption off of Game 1 vs Jville? Let the season play out and see how his game translates against better opponents and ACC play. Let's not put the cart in front of the horse.
It was likely just first game jitters.Great write up.
Donaldson is too experienced, and has been too good, to turn the ball over as he did, especially in the open court. But having seen him play at Auburn and Michigan, he will be better than he was last night.
This is sure weird, anyone know anything i don't? I posted game as 7PM up above...

Kevin Norris, ex-UM PG had that same knuckleball shot when he played here for Leonard Hamilton back in 1995-98. He was only a 33% three pt shooter but I don't think they tried to change his stroke. Is Malovec supposed to be our 3-point sniper? If so, I noticed something on his shot while at the game the other night that bothers me. He shoots it with no back spin! It’s a knuckleball, no rotation whatsoever. Hopefully our coaches are working with him to get it corrected.
If it goes in, that's all I care about. I shot with a similar knuckleball style while in HS, and was fine from 3. As I got stronger and worked on my midrange jumper more, the backspin came. For me, it was just off-hand placement on the ball. Getting it more to the side instead of on top/in front. Is Malovec supposed to be our 3-point sniper? I'm surprised you like basketball considering most basketball players smoke weedNot anymore.

Think Kevin (a long-time college Asst Coach, now at Villanova) still holds the record for Steals at UM.
