****Miami vs. California GAME THREAD****

It was another terrible loss and this one with a corching timeout... People overreact in game threads all the time. It was a **** loss capped off by a choke job timeout.
It was a bad timeout, yes. Agree with cribby, call it early or let it ride.

But Donaldson also smoked an easy layup. Udeh got stuff by a 130lb Ethiopian. Dante Allen cant make a free throw. Missing a key player in Tru. And the 3 Euros are lets be honest, all fckin useless.

This is not a tournament talent level team, yet Jai has a whole bunch of fools here thinking it is. So that should tell you how good of a job Jai has done as a rookie HC.

Its an insane level of stupidity to call for Jai's head this year. Its simply from ppl who have an agenda or know nothing about basketball.

We all knew this team would eventually get bitten by free throws and horrible shooting but the lack of effort on defense is just sickening. Not a good look.
I cant even say it’s effort. We have guys who can’t guard a chair…. And to add the cherry on top our team/helpside defense is even worse.

Trey and tru are our only guys that can move laterally. The rest of our dudes are auto fouls because they can’t move their feet or are far too handsy (Shelton)

Could only follow the game at the end but not watch. Iirc, Jai has downplayed FT shooting in the past.

We literally lost this game at the line. Unacceptable

FINAL: California 86, Miami 85

Just didn't have the horses. Time for the week off until we get back going next Saturday against Boston College -- at full strength, hopefully.

Go Canes.

He's had his improvements but the growing pains are costing this team. Not once. Multiple times.

This loss is on Coach Lucas. Calling the TO while we were on transition to score was a dummy move. He sat Donaldson down too much when we had a nice lead. Not challening a call when Donaldson was adamant about a bad call was another blunder. Keeping Malovec in there for such a long time was a massive coaching error too. He is a big liability. This team is not that good and the FT shooting is a nightmare. Both Donaldson and Henderson missed key buckets near the end. A very disappointing loss and Coach Lucas made some very poor decisions that lead to the loss. On to the next game but this team is going nowhere this year or maybe next. Growing pains for the coach to say the least. Still all in all he is doing a good job just not this evening.

Some of its effort and some is just being dumb asses. Altunas looks like a deer in headlights on defense. In zone he’s useless

I’ve been a little worried since we looked leggy before Christmas that our lack of bench options and need to play with intensity on defense and on the glass might be a problem. You can see it over the last couple weeks where we can do it in spurts, but have struggled to sustain it

100 percent on Lucas. The timeout was a rookie movie and one of the issues with hiring first time coaches. I still like what he’s doing . We need more talent and shooting but I still love the hire. We’re just experiencing growing pains by the HC that had to rebuild an entire roster in months.

Good game, tough loss but I actually think Cal and Stanford will make the NCAA tournament.
The ACC should get atleast 10 teams in the NCAA tournament.

Coach Lucas overthought the end of game sequence. Miami is a transition team, calling a TO there, when it was obvious we had them beat to the rim was a mistake. Cal needed a chance to set their defense and Miami gave it to them.

That said, this team is what it is. You can't give games away at home, especially games where you lead late. Miami should have beaten both FSU and Cal, those losses will hurt. We all know that 1) It's unlikely this team will steal a game against a high end ACC team, and 2) we can't count on this team to take care of business against VT, BC(x2) and FSU. There's a very good chance this team will be on the outside looking in on Selection Sunday, and that's okay.

Does recruiting look any good ? I really dont follow it too much
Recruiting won't be an issue, the issue is whether Lucas can build a complete roster. You can't have this crap next season, where you have 6 guys on the roster that can play and a bunch of walk on quality players taking up space on the bench...
