****Miami vs. Bethune-Cookman GAME THREAD****

That was fun to watch! I know it’s just Bethune, but we completely dominated that game from the jump.

Some thoughts:

- 25 assists to just 6 turnovers is extremely impressive. The ball is moving crisply, we have very few stagnant possessions. We have a bunch of dudes who can attack and create for themselves or others.
- Great to see Dante Allen with such a nice bounce back game. Kid looked confident, aggressive, and played smart on both ends
- 8/17 from 3, much better! Malovec drained all 3 of his attempts. I’m still a little worried about our shooting, but this was encouraging
- Donaldson and Reneau both with excellent games. Washington quietly put together a nice game too. Am I crazy or is there a bit of McGusty to his game? Not the most athletic guy, but very crafty
- Henderson is an absolute tank. Still think he’s pretty raw offensively but his upside is through the roof
- the lobs to Udeh are fun to watch. He’s also a great shot blocker

The only negatives from tonight
- altuntas really struggled. Hopefully he can get going and give us something eventually
- too many fouls and too many offensive boards given up early

Overall, very impressive game #2. We look like a tight knit, well coached team.

Much better game for Donaldson tonight. He was aggressive and engaged from the opening tip.

UM is big, physical and athletic. That translates into steals, blocks, rebounds and defense. If the shooting is there, this team should be pretty good. From a far too small sample size, I think the shooting will determine which post season tournament UM is playing in.

I thought this after game 1…

I think the two Euros could be sleepers for us. Altuntas can be a poor man’s Sengun (best case scenario obviously). Like how he is physical, wants to block shots and rebound. He finishes really well around the hoop (based on highlights I have seen) with both hands. If he can devolve a midrange/3 point shot he will be lights out. Malovec needs to be an above average 3 points shooter. We don’t shoot it well and his consistency will be vital. Overall, I was happy with game one (would have like 18.5 victory but I digress). Thursday should be a better matchup than any of us thought heading into the season. Bethune looked tough against Auburn. Let’s keep it going and have some momentum going into Florida. Happy with Jai right now

Not sure who we get in the preseason tournament we play in but I think we should have 8/9 wins in our out of conference games. Losing to UF and BYU. Should be a fun game against ole miss. So if we just go slightly above .500 in conference we should be close to 20 wins. Would be a nice season for Lucas year 1.

I am hoping that we stay injury free and guys like Henderson and Allen can develope. I don’t want to be a team that has 13 new guys every year. I’m telling you the Euros will be real important for us this year. We haven’t seen Dovrat yet and same for Maddox. We will be in most games because of our defense. The lob threat that Udeh is around the basket, combined with the unselfishness from our guards will hopefully contribute to a ton of easy baskets. Reneau is a grown man and love his feel around the basket.

Great game to watch. This staff looks light years removed from last year's.

I'm guessing Shelton is fine but him leaving and returning is something to keep an eye on

Bethune was picked to finish first in their league and probably will be in the tourney come March. Tonight's win should age well.
Trinton with the copy paste job unless you two are one in the same 🤣

2 things stood out to me:

1) The defense was legit. The rotations were on a string; they looked like the 2019 Raptors at times. I actually think Bethune's pretty good offensively, we just ate their lunch.

2) We got to the rim at will. Despite shooting 47% from 3, we're not a good shooting team and Bethune packed the paint accordingly. Yet we were still finishing at the rim all night. Not sure if that's repeatable against better defenses, but it was encouraging.
