Miami @ Va Tech 2005

Holy blast from the past.

Tyler McMeans and Eric Winston opening holes.

Kyle Wright throwing laser beams to Lance Leggett.

Charlie Jones with a TD.

PA passes to Quad.

Willie Williams with the TFL.

Wut?

I feel like I should probably just put this on a loop at 8pm tonight and enjoy.

I live in PA. I was a junior in high school and this was my first canes game ever! My uncle and cousin are Va Tech grads and it was so awesome to rub it in their face after the canes won!

Was there. VT talking trash before the game saying they weren't worried about Miami, they were just wondering if they'd rather play Texas or USC for the NC.

After the game...silence

The silence was deafening, the walk back to the car was awesome

Miami came out of the game ranked 3rd and then lost to Ga Tech correct? The Ga Tech game was rescheduled to after Va Tech because of the weather.

Hurricane Wilma if I'm correct was why it was rescheduled. We **** the bed that game. That 05 team should have been way better.

Watch Larry Coker at the 22 second mark....he is foreshadowing the next decade of Miami football

Can't believe this game was almost ten years ago. Last truly dominant performance in a game vs a top opponent.

What the **** was our defense doing that night? Aggressive, disruptive, tackles in the backfield????

Pattycake, soft zone, rush 3 and conceding 6 yards a play is so much better. Just wait for the other team to make a mistake and never ever get beat over-the-top.

Thank God we've evolved under the brilliant leadership of Fat Al and Dorito.

Calvin Johnson and Patrick ****ing Nix. We were on such a high after that game and I want to say we were in the driver's seat for the MNC

We weren't because Texas and USC were undefeated, but everybody was saying how we'd have a chance at beating them because of how nasty our defense was and that we were the surefire #1 team for 2006.

That was actually a year where you can point to an injury really hurting the team. Coker's poor recruiting led to that, but we relied heavily on Tyrone Moss--who was having a great year, and made the offense go--and Charlie Jones just couldn't stack up. With Moss, we win the GT game IMO.

Some of that talent reached their potential, some others wasted away. **** that's depressing.

That 05 team had the talent to run the table. Should have never lost any games. I do think Wright could have been something if he were in a better situation.

Wright was horrible. He had the worst pocket presence I've ever seen from a QB and couldn't hit a deep throw to save his life. He sacked himself dozens of times.

That's why Tyrone Moss was so important that year, because Wright couldn't be relied upon to move the chains. He was basically only effective when we used play action after dominating with Moss.

Yeah, we had a stick that year. As far as Wright is concerned, wasn't He a 4.5-4.6 guy?...if so, we should've tweaked the scheme to accommodate His athleticism.

I, too, remember this game like it was yesterday. I was at Claims Jumpers when it was on. Ahhhh, the glory days....where LBs were allowed to be at the line of scrimmage, where DE's actually rushed the QB instead of covering WR's, where S were allowed to blitz, and DBs allowed to press. Sheesh.

There's many others I didn't mention either. That team had talent.
I know Wrights weaknesses but I do think he could have developed much better.

Some busts in there for sure, but a LOT of solid NFL players there too.

Wright was the start of the curse that has plagued us for the last 8 years.

Fvck that guy

I watched this game in Tallahassee of all places, at AJ's Sports Bar.

The Nolies had beaten us earlier that season in the "U-Muff" game 10-7. The whole bar was Nole fans and after seeing us completely destroy V Tech, they wanted nothing to do with us in an ACC title game rematch. (which never came to fruition).

Instead, V Tech went to the ACC title game and FSU backed their way in, and ended up beating V Tech by following our blueprint.
