Jai Lucas and the Hurricanes have reached out to and are in contact with former top-50 recruit Curtis Givens, who spent one year at LSU.

Givens scored an average of 4.8 points, grabbed 1.7 rebounds, and dished out 1.6 assists per game in his first year at LSU. Coming out of Montverde Academy he had a shooting percentage of 26.9% from the field and 24.6% from beyond the arc during his freshman year. He also made 59.1% of his free throws in his first season of...

Those splits are horrendous but like I said with the other pickup, this would effectively be a net-new prep signing.

I had to read this stat a few times to make sure I hadn't gone cross-eyed "Coming out of Montverde Academy he had a shooting percentage of 26.9% from the field"

Yeah. Obviously Lucas knows best but I’m not seeing it with this guy. Last thing we need is a high volume low % shooter.
Do you think we're going to have a 13 man rotation or something? You still need to fill out your roster with developmental guys and we have a grand total of one on the roster right now.

Struggles aside, he's less than a year removed from being a top 100 recruit nationally - from a top prep program, and then got minutes as a true freshman in the top league in CBB. You absolutely take a flyer and stash for a year.

I'd tend to agree here.

NiL aside, my guess is a guy like Lewis wanted to start from day 1 and I wouldn't see that happening

His tape actually was surprisingly better than i expected.

He shows upper level athleticism and good size for the PG position. The form on his shot actually wasn't bad at all.

I can't explain the terrible shooting splits, but the potential is there. Thats not a bad backup PG to Donaldson.

I think we end up adding another veteran guard who's a bit more consistent from behind the arc. Dante Allen can be a secondary ball handler off the bench as well but this kid would get spot minutes.

You still need to run competive practices and its impossible to fill out a roster from top to bottom with starter level players. If the guys on the back end of the roster are athletic, have some size and are competitive thats a win. If they are young and could potentially compete for minutes down the line, thats even better.

Weird/inconsistent base on his jumper, and doesn’t get much lift at all which is tough for a guy that height. Release looks pretty good up top but his feet are all over the place.

Like others have said, taking flyers on guys like this is fine. But we still desperately need some shooting.

Yea, def some tweaks needed but they are fixable. Hes inconsistent, but not bad, I'd say.

Who would you prefer, Divine or this kid?
