Miami offers Olympia ATH Jeff James Jr. (Edgerrin's nephew)

2016 ATH Jeff James Jr. (6'1", 185 pounds) was offered by Miami tonight, according to Olympia head coach Kyle Hayes. James has only played football for one year, but he had 9 interceptions, over 1,000 all-purpose yards, and 5 TDs this season. He's being recruited as a safety.

“The colleges don’t really know anything about him. It’s his first year of playing. Miami has shown some interest, but that’s been about it,” said first-year Olympia head coach Kyle Hayes. “He’s a natural talent and he understands the game. He has a knack for making the big plays. … a big-risk, big-reward type of kid.”

An Indiana recruiter was at the Olympia-Oak Ridge game two weeks ago and he liked what he saw, asking, “Who is No. 6?”

James, as usual, was all over the field that night, making big plays on offense as a receiver, kick returner and a defensive back. He’s a very gifted talent with tremendous speed and a knack for doing something big every time he’s around the football.

He was previously interested in basketball and had a troubled upbringing that involved fighting, not going to school, and spending a lot of time in in-school suspension. He told The Orlando Sentinel that Hayes and his family helped set him on the right path.

When he finally decided to start playing football as a junior, he broke his collarbone in the season opener and missed the rest of the year. So this was his first and only season.
 
i try not to get carried away with recruits but that is an excellent tape especially for a kid thats only played one year. a good DB coach could get this kid looking like a NFL prospect.

Most impressed by James' ball skills for someone who's only played football for one year. Some of those high-point INTs were phenomenal.

Normally I wouldn't want a lame duck staff offering recruits since the next coach may not be interested. But I'm hoping James commits here and gets to stick. We're his only offer, but his circumstances are unique and his natural talent/athletic upside really stand out.

Great ball skills. Better film than James Pierre. Kid can with good coaching be an instant contributor. He's playing good competition too
 
Good tape, but not the type of offer one should gamble with if he decides to commit and it means putting pressure on the new staff and possibly losing interest from Jamel Cook and potentially Carlos Becker(which should be a no brainer offer). Another thing about his film is I did not see a big difference between james jr and our current commit Wiggins. It will be interesting to see who the new coach will cut loose. I'll be glad if the new staff starts making the obvious offers to kids like Becker(who will fit cb better) and making obvious choices like putting us in a dynamic offense and defensive.

You have to keep recruiting in between coaches. All programs do it. You keep drumming up excitement and selling the fact that UM is doing a nationwide search with a highly touted firm and former players.

Great ball skill, seems pretty developed for a player playing his first year.

Any idea of comp? Looks extremely suspect

I think this is more about a University offer than a "current coach" offer. The kid is a legacy and his film looks more than legit. In the situation we're in, just accept it and move forward.
