Miami offense and defense replays vs Texas AM

On first drive it shows why you have to practice nine routes, fade routes in game because Smith has a little step but since we dont want to show the offense ,which I argued throwing fades in game have nothing to do with showing offense, you can do both and the qb needs it so they dont throw ball out of bounce when it matters because they have no reps

Just rewatched the defense.

K. Smith played a lot better than I remember during the first watch.

Leonard Taylor is a freak athlete but like @Coach Macho pointed out, there were a couple plays were he failed to do his assignment that led to big runs for the other guys. He makes crazy plays but sometimes gets out of position which hurts us. Need him to play his role better and we'll limit big plays.

James Williams whiffed on 3 tackles. Like LT, he's a freak athlete and has major game changing ability, but he needs to breakdown and be more consistent breaking down so he stops missing on tackles. Safety can't be missing those tackles.

Harvey played great. Missed the QB read once, but besides that was excellent.

Flagg played great. Steed missed tackles and was out of position

Kam is a heat seeking missile.

Mesidor is a beast

Our DL looked good.

Overall happy with the defense. I don't think their offense is great, but we played our best defensive performance in our biggest test so that is very reassuring

Watched the offense again.

Parrish gets more yards than you think are available every time. He isn't a huge homerun threat, but man he is a great RB. Rooster played well too. His speed is huge for us. I don't want to see him playing in the redzone though in the future. He goes down too easy. Play him more between the 20s and get him more involved in the passing game.

Two things are true about the passing game:
1. WR had WAY too many drops.
2. TVD missed WAY too many throws.

I also think because these plays take longer to develop he feels like he needs to take more steps in the pocket. It seems like he's going too deep in the pocket though because the further back you go the easier it is for a DE to pressure you. If you stay kind of shallow in the pocket it is easier for the tackles to push the DE past you and keep the pocket clean. If you go too deep in the pocket DEs can pin their ears back and instead of having to go through the tackle they can just run around them

I've made it known I was not impressed with his ball placement or his game, but our WRs and RBs need to catch the ball when it gets to them. No excuses for dropped passes.

There was a ball to Parrish on the right sideline that I thought was covered well during the game that upon another look likes like it was underthrown and #21 had to slow down to try to catch it. (Assuming Parrish catches it) that could've been a TD too.

Keyshawn Smith is fast as fck. He beat the CB in one on one coverage twice and with a well placed ball he has a huge night with two huge TDs.

Everyone hates on Mallory for his inability to make big plays after the catch and his blocking ability. Yes, his blocking is bad, but he was the most reliable guy catching the ball and that is why they keep him out there. Arroyo had two plays that he beat the F out of his guy and with better ball placement he scores 2 TDs.

We want to see guys like B Smith play more because we like when he turns a 3 yard pass into a first down at the end of the game, but maybe he isn't getting as much burn is because he follows it up by dropping a pass on 4&4 when the ball hits him exactly where it is supposed to.

Honestly not as upset about Gattis's playcalling after a second viewing. We had a lot, a lot, a lot of opportunities to get big plays tonight and we didn't execute.

I'm optimistic that we'll learn from yesterday and improve.

Way more frustrating rewatching the offense than it was the defense lol

Btw I was happy to see Nyjalik Kelly in pass rushing situations. He is the most natural athlete at that position and is going to be a serious problem for years to come.

This channel makes very informative youtube videos. DE is one of my favorite positions and there is a lot more involved in it that people who never played might not know about. For anyone interested, I highly recommend watching this video even though its about the NFL. I see Kelly being a complete DEnd in the future and maybe he'll be encorporating this move (ghost rush): .

He had a rush last game where he almost got to the QB but Ol was able to knock him off track. If he had gotten a little skinnier like the move in the video suggests that might be a sack.
